A/N: Alright, so this is my first Fanfic. Ever. So don't expect it to be "good". Feedback is appreciated!
During the early years of my childhood, nothing excited me more than the sounds of the frogs croaking in the pond in the Republic City Park. My brother Bolin, our friends, and I would chase the frogs around the coast of the pond. This would go on for hours and when we got tired, we would relax on those grassy hills surrounding the pond and stare at the sky, pointing out funny looking clouds and random things like that.
Despite the good times I've had at the Park, my worst memories occurred here. A never ending nightmare of a tall, angry, bad smelling beast chasing me around the park, laughing at me. I would always run as fast as I could. No matter what, however, a dark cloud would eventually envelop me into my own personal hell. I could never understand why it wreaked of alcohol and smoke. The beast would attack me while I screamed and yelped for my life. I never understood why no one heard me, and if they did, why they ignored my pleas.
The beast would eventually drag me back to its stone lair underneath the pond, shouting at me to be quiet and that it wasn't finished with me yet. It's other victims – more human children – would start to bawl when they saw me; it's creator and companion would desperately try to stop the beast, but to no avail. The beast would lock us in a room, beating me until I bled. After a while I wasn't able to see or hear anything, and when I finally blacked out, the beast would stop.
When I wake up from these...nightmares I would be in my bed, my face swollen like a prune. I would get out of bed and get dressed, only to discover broken bottles scattered around my room. I walked into the living room only to discover my father sleeping on the couch, an absurd amount of bottles of booze and cigarettes surrounding him; dried blood on his knuckles. I hated my father. After that, I would head outside to help my mother with whatever she was doing. When I was done, I would tell her that I was going out and that I was taking Bolin with me.
We would leave our house in the Dragon Flats and head to the Republic City Park to play with our friends. Doing the same old things, listening to the croaks of the frogs – waiting for the cycle to begin again.
