A/N: This plot doesn't belong to me. Just read it, enjoy it, and cry about it. An older Rin and Sesshomaru pairing. AU, a one-shot.
Disclaimer: Inuyasha doesn't belong to me; the plot doesn't belong to me. I refuse all credit except the effort of typing this out for your enjoyment.
Eternal butterfly
It was raining on that day. Water droplets splattered down on the pavement, making the road slippery and glossy. Reflections from the traffic light adorned the road; green, ember, and red.
Rin and I were just sheltering from the rain under a building, looking at the lonely postbox across the street from us. She was beside me, as beautiful as ever, clinging on to my left arm for warmth. My right hand was in the pocket of my white windbreaker, holding a letter which was to be sent to my parents living in the north.
Rin told me that she could post the letter for me. I nodded my head silently and handed her the letter.
"Well, it's your fault for bringing only one small, tiny umbrella." Rin said cheerfully. One hand holding on to the umbrella, one hand clutching on to my letter, she prepared to cross the road.
"Rin!" I shouted, taking off my white windbreaker. "You should wear this!" At this, I tossed my windbreaker at her. Catching it, she immediately wore it and waved to me.
My eyes followed her petite figure as she cross the road, unknowing about the car speeding towards her. Following the sound of screeching tires, her body flew up lightly and slowly landed on the damp road, like a butterfly at night.
It was spring then, but it seemed like late autumn to me.
She was just helping to post my letter. Yet that simple action made me regret for life.
Gradually, I opened my eyes. I was sheltering from the rain again under the same building. Tears formed at my eyes. The cars had all stopped, the crowd from two sides walked towards the center. No one knew that lying there in the middle of the road was my butterfly, my beautiful butterfly. She was so near to me, yet so far. Bigger droplets of rain fell, sipping into my life.
Why? Why did I insist on bringing only one umbrella?
Abruptly, I saw Rin wearing my white windbreaker. One hand was holding on to the umbrella, the other clutching a letter. She was helping me to post a letter, a letter to my parents living in the north.
In reality, the rain that day was not so heavy, but it was the heaviest rainfall in my life. I wondered it Rin knew the content of the letter?
It went like this:
Dear Mom and Dad,
I will be proposing to Rin soon. I hope both of you can attend our wedding.
Sincerely,
Sesshomaru
