True, Fang had been her best friend. But he'd changed. And sure, they all had. But he wasn't the same. Lately he'd been…different.

He'd been turning into… well, her. He was trying to take over leadership secretly, but first he had to get her weak. So he pretended to like her. Or something like that. But he was really creeping her out. And the kids needed them, too! Much as she wanted to pretend, Iggy probably wasn't doing the best job of watching the little kids. Probably off exploding something with Gazzy.

But anyway, they needed to get back. At least she could. She didn't care what happened to Fang. She knew she'd have to see him again, but she wasn't looking forward to it. Things were just too weird between them now.

He'd really changed. He wasn't the same old tough, silent Fang now. Now he gave in to everything, had weird ideas that only got them into more trouble, left every decision up to her. He'd changed since their little home had been destroyed. And they'd been on the run. She realized that she simply didn't know him anymore.

And she knew he was trying to gain leadership. Her position, since, like, forever. Well he'd just have to challenge little Angel, the mind control girl who could make anyone do anything. The thought still made her shudder. But maybe she SHOULD let Fang step up. Since all they wanted to do was find a good home, and here she was, Maximum Ride, wanting to go on a little save-the-world adventure. Maybe she should just go by herself! They can do whatever they want to. Plus, they'd be safe, since she was the one with the tracking chip.

Suddenly she heard a loud noise. Was Fang okay???

Now he was just like her. He was going soft, and she was becoming the strong one. Nothing would stop her from doing what she needed to do, even if it mean it would be just her and her little voice from now on.
