Disclaimer: Characters aren't mine. Blah blah.
Summary: It starts and ends with fire. Dean was chosen for this.
A/N: This is a short, strange little thing I wrote. Technically, it's not AU yet, but come Season Five, it surely will be. I don't have the slightest idea where this notion came from.

"The Last Chapter"
It starts and ends with fire.
His mother dying, up on the ceiling? That was the beginning. What came before it . . . his life, his normal life? He barely remembers it anyway. It's the prologue that everyone skips, that can be summed up via exposition.
The real story starts with fire.
There are lots of repetitive chapters of blood and pain.
He goes to Hell, and that should be the ending. He burns and burns and burns. But this is only the intermission, or a chapter break. Keep up with the metaphor.
He comes back.
He comes back and Sam delivers the Devil. The earth is scorched in flame.
This is not the ending, either.
People don't understand what endings are.
Apocalypse only means Revelation. Sammy tells him this. The little geek. A lot of people die in the Apocalypse. Ellen. Rufus. A lot of people.
He learns the truth in the Apocalypse.
He learns what he has to do.
He is the only one who can do it. He is special. He is chosen. He comes apart at the seams, so much light, fire, inside of him. Sammy crying. He doesn't want that. He hopes Sammy remembers to close his eyes.
He told him to close his eyes. He tried to tell him so many things.
He burns, he burns so bright. He scorches the sky. He takes out Lucifer. He takes out the demons. He takes out the angels.
He takes out God in a fiery embrace.
He is a reboot. He is the End. He stops it all. He is the End.
He is the flood, the cleansing fire. He is God's instrument in genocide, suicide.
Everyone thought Sammy was so special. They were right. He is After.
Sammy is the epilogue. He is the people, without the ghosts or gods or monsters. He will lead the survivors into another story.
This one ends in flame.
