The People's Hero
The Sheriff of Nottingham stood by the tree where he hung Wanted posters. He read the paper to the people gathered about. It stated that Robin Longstride was now an Outlaw of the State for crimes against the Crown. All the villagers cried out at this! They did not see why he would be called that. The Sheriff shouted it down. He continued, stating that all that helped Robin Longstride or as he was better known, Robin of the Hood, would be considered an Outlaw alongside him. When he was finished, he spread the poster out on the tree and demanded a hammer and nail. No one came foreward with them. He demanded them again and again but still, no one came foreward. he was getting mad. His face was red and his eyes blazed with fury at their defiance, but no one flinched. An arrow flew out of no where and embeddeditself in the tree, anchoring the paper in place, right between the Sheriff's spread forefinger and thumb. The Sheriff whirled around, trying to see who sent the arrow and where they were. Then a small voice spoke from the crowd. "You will not find him!" The Sheriff turned and glared as a little girl pushed her way to the front of the crowd. He marched over and stopped directly in front of the girl. "Oh? And why is that?" She was very small, only to the Sheriff's waist if she stood on tip-toes. Her hair was short and curly, almost like a boys, and an almost white-blond color. Her cheeks were a high, rosy color that brought out her cloudy blue eyes, as if she had been struck blind at an early age, or perhaps born that way. She was dressed in a dirty, off-white tunic that only reached her knees, and was bare foot. She glared up at the sheriff, though her eyes were out of focus. "Because he is a hero! To you and your superiorshe may be a villain, but he is not! Not to us. To us, he is our keeper, our caretaker. He will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. He will always defend the rights of his fellow Englishmen. He is his father's son and will not give up until either he achieves for us what he promised, or dies trying. And even if he does die before the people of England achieve their liberty, there will always be others to take up his role and his fight. And the common people will have their liberty. It may not be soon, but it will happen. And remember, we the common people of this land, out number you one hundred to one." She reached up and jabbed him in the chest. "And you will not always rule!" People started to cheer. It was not everyday you heard such wisdom from one so young. She started to chant, "Robin Hood! Robin Hood! Robin Hood!" and punched her fist in the air with each chant. More and more people joined in until the very air was roaring with the sound of Robin's name. The Sheriff stared with disgust around the forest clearing at the chanting people and then down at the little girl that had started everything. She had an innocent, yet proud smile on her face that disgusted him even more. It was this that made him decide to end this at the roots. He sent a crushing blow to the little girl's skull. She fell and blood seeped into the moss covered rocks around her. The clearing grew deathly silent. "Let this be a remeinder to you all, I am still in charge." He swept back to his horse, people flinching away from him as if he had the plauge, forming a clear path for him. Once he had galloped away, all eyes turned to the little body now laying at the base of the tree. She may have been just a mortal shell, but her proud, innocent smile was still in place.
The Little Angel Had Done Her Job.
This was inspired by the movie Robin Hood. It was the first thing that popped into my head after seeing the last part of the movie. I know its sad but I rather like it. Please review. I like to know if my ideas are any good and if people like my writing.
