As Ziva sat cradled on a rock, holding three thick books tears streamed down her small pale face. She couldn't bring herself to believe what was going on.
Looking up she found Gibbs sitting on the coffin with puffy red eyes. Abby was cradled like a baby in McGee's arms.
The whole thing had struck the team like a hurricane. She should have leaned in for the kiss he was offering. Then it would be both of them in the coffin. But no. She had to tell him instead of taking the kiss.
Slowly opening the diary her heart began to throb at the thought of how much Tony loved her.
He had written about pricing rings.
Although Ziva didn't get the idioms right, or her English was off sometimes, or she didn't know some customs. She knew what a ring meant. Sobbing harder into his Diary she looked up to find Gibbs sitting beside her, arms around her shoulders. Leaning into him her tears came more easily. Noticing Gibbs breathing she looked up into his eyes and saw them glaze over with tears.
"Ziva," Gibbs spoke, pulling the diaries out of her hands, "You told him, didn't you?"
Biting her lip she spoke clearly through the tears, "Yeah, just before he was shot,"
"Got any names?" He grinned.
"Yeah, I do. If it's a boy, Tony, or a girl Jenny."
The name "Jenny," brought memories back to Gibbs. He fought them off by concentrating on the moment. He gazed up at the pale blue sky. Not noticing Ziva who had left his arms and was now sitting by the coffin.
She lifted the top of the coffin and dug into his suit pocket. There was a small blue velvet box. She opened the box to find a small silver ring with two diamonds. Reading the inside of the ring it said, "Forever and Always,"
