Summary: Someone receives a specially letter
Gibbs was always in the back of his mind, never wandering far from his thoughts. It had been a while since he heard from him, and just the familiar handwriting brought a smile to his face. He ran his hand gently over the small cursive writing, feeling the weight lift off of his shoulders as silent tears stung the back of his eyes.
No, he thought, I'm not going to cry. He made his way upstairs to his bedroom, the one he use to share with is wife. The house now silent as it has been four years upon years, only his footsteps and the creaks of the wooden floor making a sound in protest in being stepped upon.
He opened the slightly ajar door to its full angel and proceeded to make his way to the bed. He wanted to savor every moment he had until he was ready to open the small white envelope. He sat down on the bed and reached to his left grabbing the silver letter opener and gently opened the letter, not wanting to ruin it's pristine condition. After successfully opening it, he set the letter opener back down and took out the one page letter. He smiled to himself as he read the first line.
Hey, I thought it was about time I wrote you, seeing as I promised.
He let a snort escape mouth, but kept on reading.
Everything is fine here, I just want you to know that I haven't forgotten about you. I don't have that much time to write, nor do I really have much to say, but you're never far from thought. It was great seeing you. Keep well old man I'll get in touch soon. Love you dad.
A small tear escaped from the side of eye, but he didn't bother to brush it away. He reread the letter over and over again, its sixty-nine words already embedded in his memory.
Jackson Gibbs held the letter to his chest and closed his eyes, another tear falling between them.
He always knew how to touch me, good or bad.
Gibbs put the letter in a chest drawer, one the contained all of his letters from his son Jethro. It wasn't as nearly full as he would have hoped, but he knew that it would be soon. It was only a matter of time before he'd receive another one. He knew it in his gut.
