Ok, so this idea came into my head a long time ago, and I was going to write it and post it on father's day, but I somehow never got around to it. So just ignore the fact that it's no where near father's day, and enjoy the story lol

Oh, and I wrote it in like ten minutes, so it's not perfect.

Jim returned home from work to find his wife sitting at the table and writing in some sort of card. Father's day was the next day, so he assumed that's what it was, but that was weird because neither of them had a father to give a card to. Sometimes they would buy flowers and bring them to their fathers' graves, but, for obvious reasons, never a card.

"Hey, Mel, what are you doing?" He asked as he walked over to her, gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, and sat down on the chair next to her.

"Oh, nothing." Melinda said, quickly closing the card.

"Oh come on Mel, I can tell something's up, what is that?" Jim asked.

"You'll find out soon enough." Melinda said playfully, slowly leaning in to kiss him.

"Hey, come on, let me see it." Jim said as he reached over and grabbed it from under her arm.

"Hey, give it back!" She shouted as she tried to reach over and take it back from him.

"Let me read it first." He said as he held it out away from her, just out of her reach.

"No fair!" She said as she playfully hit him on the arm, and then proceeded to try to take it away from him, but, just as he had planned, she could not reach it.

Jim cleared his through, and then jokingly started to read the card aloud.

"Dear Jim," He said as he started to read it.

"Meanie!" Melinda shouted back at him.

"There is something I've been meaning to tell you," Jim continued, "and I didn't know quite how to say it, but then I remembered today would be Father's Day, and the opportunity seemed perfect. You may not be a father this year, but by next year, you will be."

Melinda sat there silently for a moment, waiting for Jim to say something. She had been planning to make it a big deal tomorrow. She was going to make him breakfast and surprise him with the card, but that obviously wasn't going to happen now.

"Thank you," Jim said, "That was possibly the best father's day give you could give me."

"But it's not fathers day yet!" Melinda protested.

"Well, it must be somewhere."

"So you're happy?"

"Melinda, of course I'm happy. I love you, and that baby." He said pointing to her stomach. Melinda smiled, and leaned in again, this time the kiss much more passionate than the first.

"I love you too."
