Not Alone (Short)

The beautiful golden colours of sunset had already passed – now, the stars and the moon have taken over the night sky; it was night.

I was standing by my window, gazing outside in boredom. Today was the last day of school – in June. I felt happy that I finished yet another year of high school. All the adventures I had with my friends and all the fun laughs we had together in school...ah, the memories.

I sat down on my sofa, and was about to check what's on TV and then play some Xbox, but before I could move my hands towards the remote, my phone lit up and vibrated. It was Tails – he had just messaged me.

I grabbed my phone, unlocked the screen, opened the app and read his message.

Hey dude, I was just wondering if you could come over to my house for a bit. We're having quite a bit of fun here. Y'know, just because you've been so quiet today. A lot of us are here. So, if you like, come over and let's play some games together :)

I grinned, and put my phone in my pocket. I got up, and went to get my jacket – it was June, but it could get moderately cold outside at night. I grabbed my pair of sneakers and quickly got into them.

I was about to go and take a run to Tails' house, but then I changed my mind. I reached inside the drawer and snatched the car keys – I haven't gone for a night ride in my new blue Lamborghini roadster yet, so it was time to take it with me to Tails' house.

I went inside my garage. The car was there, in the dark, waiting to be driven. I unlocked it and got inside.

I literally just got it a week ago. All I drived it since was when I brought it home from the dealer. Now it was time to take it for a serious ride.

I inserted the key, started up the engine and soon I was already flying down the streets, going at top speed, with no regrets. I could feel the wind as I sped past many cars and red lights, until finally I turned into the street where Tails' house is.

Approaching the house, I parked outside, got out of the car, and approached Tails' doorstep. I rang the doorbell.

Soon, I was going to have more fun than I ever expected. And it would be a fitting end to this year of school – to just spend some time with my best friends.

However, I would not be able to savor it for long. Soon, some things would change in all of our lives. And the inevitable would eventually come by.
