It is said that maturity and intelligence are not made up of one's years upon the earth, but a person's experiences and how that person grows by them. This basically means that a person's personality is made of experiences. But what happens when a person doesn't grow by their experiences, but instead is diminished by them.....

Thus Brian presents: fade

"Fear is the greatest motivator of all..."

A little girl is curled up in her bed crying. Crying, not because a mean kid a school called her a bad name, or because she skinned her knee, but rather because she is scared. This little girl is not very old, but she is old enough to be terrified and old enough to hate herself for not being strong enough to do anything about it.

*****************************************************************

I don't remember much of my early childhood years, just brief snapshot memories and feelings. Still, It's the most treasured part of my life, for the sole reason that I was unburdened. Unburdened of responsibilities, free of worry or guilt. And I was never afraid. Growing up I had a well-respected, protective, if a little aloof father and mother who was known among the neighborhood kids as the best. She cooked the best, she kept the cleanest, most nicely decorated house, and she was the mother away from home for all the kids, she'd mend the little girls kimono's and clean the boy's scraped knees. Still, I think it was father's aloofness, and mother's sense of order that allowed what I refer to in my mind as "It", to happen.

Even from a young age we were made to keep our rooms and clothes clean, I once remember Mother scolding my three-year-old sister because she had forgotten to was her hands before coming to the dinner table. I was five then, and Mother continued to get worse and worse until she died, supposedly of a rare blood disease. Of course, only Father and I know better. When Mother got to a hospital the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with her, and when she died they did an autopsy. The cause of death was determined to be lye poisoning.
