"Well, what have we here?"
I smirked at the trembling young woman I held suspended off the floor. She was absolutely terrified of me, but equally determined not to show it. It was unfortunate I couldn't trust her not to try to stake me again once my back was turned. Judging by the fact Lafayette had refused to join his pathetic compatriots until I'd grabbed her, she was connected to him in some way. And, if she was connected to him, she'd undoubtedly be connected to Sookie Stackhouse. Which meant I couldn't drain her. A small whimper finally escaped the girl, her brown eyes watering. I smirked. I wouldn't kill her, but I sure as hell would enjoy incapacitating the irritating little bitch.
As I moved to sink my fangs into her neck, the lights in the tiny store flickered erratically and even I felt the chill in the unnatural wind that spun about. Still bent over the woman, I looked over to find the ringleader of this coven standing in the center of her circle. But, something was wrong. Where before, she had seemed insignificant, simple, perhaps even a bit dim, now she stood firm head erect and eyes aflame with her power.
Wait. Her eyes were actually full of fire, as if reflected back from a blaze only she could she.
That's when I realized the one called Marnie had been chanting. But the voice coming out of her mouth did not belong to her. It's husky timber sent an uncomfortable prickle running down my spine to land hard and cold in my gut. For a second the woman's image seem to flicker and another's momentarily superimpose itself on top of it. It only lasted for the briefest of movements, less than half a second, but with my enhanced senses I'd caught it perfectly. And I knew.
This coven were ignorant children, playing at magic, drunk on their successes yet blindly unaware of the consequences of their actions . But there leader, in her ineptitude, had unleashed something horrible. Something I had hoped had been destroyed that night over five hundred years ago. Somehow, she was back.
I straightend and my limbs went slack, sending the girl in my arms crash to the ground. The last of her chanting died away, and while my ears couldn't identify the dark language , a thought entered my head with stark clarity.
You shall be close to your heart's true desire, but you will never know it. That light will never be yours to cherish.
I felt my fangs retract. My body and voice paralyzed. My vision clouded and white spots of light began to take over. The last thought I could form: I am so fucked!
This is my first fic for and for True Blood. If you give me reviews, maybe the True Blood Fairy will leave a naked Viking in your under shower tomorrow morning. Just saying :P
