Vigilante of time and space,
Evil knows you can't defeat me,
You can fight, and you may shoot me.
But you can't exterminate me,
Regenerate me.

Lonely saviour of the universe,
Last in line of all my kin.
King of sacrifice and bearer of justice,
I am your last chance to repent.

Protect the solar system, I walk the earth.
Sole protector of the Human race.
You will know me by the big blue box,
But you will never know my face.

The Doctor slowly became aware of his surroundings, the cold metal grating of the TARDIS floor pressing into his cheek. One of his feet was caught on the top step, which explained how he fell, but not why. There was a thudding in his chest, not the familiar thudding of his two hearts but something pulsing out of sync with his body, which was filled with a familiar tingling, the onset of regeneration. The Doctor slowly climbed to his feet, using the central console to heave himself up. He bowed his head, the long hair of his fringe flipping into his eyes one last time. Then, bracing himself the Doctor stepped back.

He flung back his head and arms as the full force of his regeneration ripped through him. He thought he'd be used to it by his 11th change, but the sensation of his very cells changing was one he could never get used to. His vision went white, then turned black.

The sensation came to a sudden stop. He slowly tipped his head forward and opened his new eyes. Right, so he could still see. That was always good. He lifted his hands (he still had two of them) to his face. His hair was shorter before, but was still longer than his 11th self's. His face felt skinny but was slightly pockmarked from old acne scars. His nose was slightly wonky but not too long nor too big. Rubbing his new eyes, the Doctor walked around to the view screen of the TARDIS and twiddled with the controls around the edge to make it look inwards, turning the screen into a mirror. 'Vain, maybe, but who cares?' He cocked his head to one side examining his features. The first thing he noticed was that he was even younger than any of his previous faces, even the one he had just left. His hair was a really deep red and swished to one side. His eyes were a piercing blue and with the red hair made an odd but mildly attractive combination. He rubbed a hand through his hair experimenting with the length, before stopping suddenly, before pulling the screen as close to him as he could, examining his cheek. 'What in the name of sanity is on my face?' He chuckled, before examining his face again. 'That is weird.'
