"Just tell me the damn truth for once, Uchiha Sasuke!"

Sasuke slowed his gait, looking back over his shoulder.

This wasn't the man Sakura knew. This was an empty shell that knew no emotion; that felt no sorrow, no pain; one who could crush you without a second thought. Life – ha, what a pointless thing.

This wasn't Sasuke.

Sasuke's eyes widened, an impossibly wide grin filled with malice and insanity.

"The truth, Sakura?"

That wasn't Sasuke's voice - it wasn't, it couldn't be, it just wouldn't be. That hissing voice filled with blood lust; she wouldn't accept that as him.

"The truth…" The Sasuke imposter took a step closer. Sakura was stunned into not moving. "The truth, the truth, the truth."

Sasuke stood in front of Sakura, bending down to force her to look into the cold, red gaze of the Mangekyou Sharingon.

"No, no, no, no-"

"Ah, yes, the truth. You wanted to hear it, Sakura. Now you can."

"No, no, no, no-"

"I killed him."

"NOOO!"

Sakura blindly lashed out, not caring if she hit him or not.

"Its fine, Sakura."

It was amazing she could hear him over all that hysterical screaming. Who was making that impossible racket? She needed to reason with Sasuke… no, that wasn't the real Sasuke… she needed to find the real Sasuke…

"You'll be joining him soon."

Joining who? And why did Sasuke have that horrid expression on his face? What was all this thick crimson doing all over her? Was it Sasuke's? She'd better heal him… but she was losing strength…

"You pathetic, worthless humans can be together again, how touching."

She could hear him over her own hysteric screaming, how astonishing… it was her making that inhumane sound, wasn't it? Oh, how she felt so weak… She wanted to go to sleep… but she wanted to say something before she did. What was it?

"You're surviving awfully long for a weak little girl…"

Oh - thank you Sasuke.

"Tell Naruto hi for me."

Oh, you can tell him yourself, he's just back in the village. We can all be together again, Sasuke.

"What's it like to die, Sakura, tell me?"

Oh, pleasant, pleasant, you should try it some time, Sasuke.

Sakura's eyes drooped, her screams dying down. What was it she needed to say? She could already see Naruto… Naruto was coming to take her home, how nice. How wonderful… but what about Sasuke…? Wasn't he coming, too?

"…Thank… you…"

"For killing you? What a stu-"

"For… being… a good… friend…"

Sakura smiled weakly at his shocked face, her eyes half-lidded. She could see Naruto getting impatient; beckoning her to come along. She inhaled one last time.

"Bye… Sa… suke… th… ank… s…"

Sakura gave herself to Naruto; to his smiling face.

Soon they'd surely be together again.

One day.
