Note: No, Mark isn't a wizard in this story. This fic is simply what happened between Dudley and Mark. Please forgive any errors as I haven't read the book in awhile.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything, not even the plot.
This means its Mark's thoughts
Mark
Mark Evans looked on as what was known to him as "Dudley's gang" beat up a boy, no older than seven or eight. A tall, rat-faced boy held the younger boy, who sobbed, pleading for them to let him go. Dudley, a blonde pig-like boy took pleasure in beating the boy numerous times in the stomach. Finally they let go of him, he collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath. Mark had enough, he was sick of watching kids he didn't know being beaten by the gang of cowards. Mark wasn't even five foot and didn't weigh over 90lbs at the most, being only ten. He didn't really see how his interference was going to help, but… as his mom said, "You can't lose anything if you don't try" so…
"Hey! You big pig! Are you so pathetic you have to resort to your gang holding down a KID for you to hit?"
Maybe this wasn't the greatest idea… I don't think this is what mom meant when she said that…
"What did you say to me?" Dudley towered over Mark. He gulped.
"N-N-Nothing" he stuttered
Really smart, Mark…
"You called me a pig!" he snarled. His face was so close; Mark could smell the bitterness of tobacco and sugar, a very unusual blend.
Taking a deep breath, he replied with more courage then he felt, "What are you gonna do about it? Beat me up like you did the other kid? You're nothing without your group- the only reason they follow you is 'cause you're the dumbest of the lot-" he would've continued if Dudley hadn't slugged him across the face, knocking him to the ground.
Ok… that kind of hurt. OW! I think my ribs are broken…
"COWARD!" Mark shouted weakly. Dudley kicked him in the face.
Mark's eyes watered in pain. Dudley hauled him back to his feet by the front of his shirt and socked him in the stomach several times.
"Never… call… me… coward," after each word Dudley hit him again. One member of his gang snickered, was it Malcolm? He couldn't tell as he was seeing double.
Is anyone gonna help me? I shouldn't have said anything… but at the same time he knew, he wouldn't have done any differently if he'd had the chance to do it over. Mark noticed the younger boy had managed to disappear while the gang's attention was fixed on him. "Maybe he'll get help" he thought hopefully, but inside, he knew, no one ever ratted out on Dudley…
Everything was getting fuzzy. Mark could feel himself growing weaker with each strike. Darkness clouded his vision. With a gasping breath, he said one last word, "Coward," before he blacked out.
I'm sorry I failed…
Well… what'd you think? I know it's really short. Please review!
