Terrence lay there in his hospital bed, his eyes on the floor. He had been waiting for his mom to show up for quite some time now. Last he heard, the nurse said she had come but it had been a while since then. Had she forgotten him? Maybe she was getting something to eat first. No, that couldn't be it. It was his mother! Wouldn't she care about him more than food. Although, now that he thought about, she did hold her candy very high. Almost like a second child. Could candy, that second child, be more important? And what about his friends? How were they doing? Corny ended two hours ago! Maybe he should have told them to report the show's goingsons before he left to be here. He wondered what they may have been doing at that very moment.
This room really smelt bad. Or maybe it just reminded him of Katie. She was always spraying that Lysol and it made everything stink. Now, being here in this place, the Lysol smell was back and it was overwelming.
"Where is she?" he thought aloud. "Where?"
An old woman, sharing a room with him, suddendly jolted awake.
"I don't want anymore orange juice doctor!"
Terrence watched her curiously, then fell back onto the cushions. The clock above him read 7 pm. Oh where was she?
"No more orange juice!" the old woman shouted again.
"Oh be quiet!" he shouted back. The woman stared at him for a moment then fell silent again.
The door opened and in came his mother.
"Well it's about time!" he said. His mother blinked.
"I...was buying you some pie." she said, still shocked.
"Your late!" Terrence said.
"Oh. I'm sorry." She placed the pie on his nighttable.
"How are you?" she asked timidly.
"I have two gashes in my face!"
"But...are you feeling better."
"No."
He couldn't believe it. The nerve for someone not to come when he needed them.
