Max was not afraid of the dark. He just didn't like walking alone at night, that was all. There was a difference between the two. A huge difference.

The difference being that things are more likely to jump out at you if you're alone, Max thought grumpily as he tightened his grip on his bowling ball. Danny was supposed to be walking him home... along with seeing the game, and stuffing his face with Max at the victory dinner. But no, even now he rated lower in Danny's mind than a bunch of flowers.

Okay, that wasn't fair. Danny had yet to complain once about Max's equally busy schedule, not even that time when he couldn't help finish arranging the roses for the party because he had blanked on the hour his match started (and 'borrowed' Danny's store van to get to the bowling alley). He'd already thought up an apology as he parked the van back in the garage, but Danny had... just smiled and told him that he understood. Then he apologized of all things, saying that it was his fault for forgetting to remind him like Max had asked him a week ago.

So long story short, Danny's the best thing that ever happened to me, and I just spent the better part of tonight complaining about him. Still, he had been really looking forward to having him there, cheering him on...

He tried to cheer up as he dug in his pocket for the key to their apartment. True, Danny's attention may be divided, but at least it wasn't divided between him and Kendall anymore. Max had nothing against her personally, but the fact that Danny seemed incapable of getting over his crush on her was another story. He'd take walking home alone over Danny mooning over his ex-boss any day-- or night.

Max didn't bother to turn on the light. He was afr... he wasn't fond of the dark, but he didn't want to disturb Danny. Besides, if he wanted to find the bedroom all he had to do was follow the snoring.

He opened the door quietly... and was immediately bathed in a blue light. It didn't take him too long to find the source of said light: a small nightlight in the shape of a tropical fish had been placed near the bed.

Any complaints were long forgotten as Max changed into his pajamas and flopped down next to Danny. One kiss good night later, he was snoring with him.
