That was all he had.
One wish.
She said that he could have anything he wanted, anything at all. Anything in the entire world.
His gaze shifted downwards, silent.
The earth was laid out below him, like a map with three dimensions. He could see everything. Everyone that was dear to him was so obvious, like a light shining through glass, sparkling only for him.
One wish.
His eyes drifted to one small form, standing alone in the snow. Anything he wanted. She could be his, forever. But then he watched as she moved, to Tamahome, and he realized that she wasn't who he had really wanted anyway.
His eyes moved again, but this time it was towards the palace.
He could hear crying...
The emperor was crying for him.
He moved closer to see and to hear better.
The words were muffled, but he could still understand the pleas. Hotohori-sama was upset about his death. Hotohori-sama... had cared about him?
A faint smile trickled across his lips. He knew Miaka would be happy with Tamahome. But his other love was still crying.
With one wish, he could have Hotohori love him. He could have them be together forever. He could finally hold him, to kiss him, to touch the long, flowing dark hair. He could have everything he had dreamed of for so long, for so many years...
He had decided.
This was his only wish.
Taiitsu-kun appeared to him, her old face serious. "You're ready?"
With a small, sad smile on his face, Nuriko nodded. "I want Hotohori-sama to be happy."
