"I see London!" James jabbed his finger at the window enthusiastically, leaning so far over Lily she was afraid he would break. "I see France now," James added on.

"I see James' underpants," Lily added dryly.

"Really, where?" James asked with interest, finally looking away from the window.

"Never mind silly, that's just part of an old muggle rhyme." Lily couldn't help but grin slightly. "And are you positive that you don't want to sit in the window seat? You're not being chivalrous, I've been on a plane loads of times before and anyway, you're just in my lap the whole time."

"You mind?" James asked cheekily, causing Lily to poke him. By the time they were done with their tickle fight, the lady sitting behind them was thoroughly annoyed, they were both out of breath with laughter and, Lily suspected deliberately, James had somehow ended up in the window seat.

His head was stuck to the window now, looking down with an intense concentration that reminded Lily of his single minded Quidditch playing. James seemed to be thinking along the same lines as her because he picked up her hand in his own and asked "This is almost as good as broomstick, isn't it?"

"Yeah," Lily answered softly.

Watching the continents drift away below her, she leaned her head against her boyfriend and smiled.

Even a thousand feet up in the air, his joy for life was a little infectious.
