Author's Note:
So I recently got into Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire and I am officially hooked. I love all the characters (even the villains) and started to really feel and sympathize with them because they all have wants and goals that they will do everything in their power to attain. I am going to update my other story soon, but I really wanted to publish these poems. For some reason I just couldn't get a certain phrase out of my head and when I finally wrote it down on paper I realized that I was writing Sansa's poem. She is one of my favorite characters and not just because she is a young woman like myself, but because I really empathize with her and feel her struggle. More poems will be posted in the future, but for now here is my first crack at writing poetry. I'm not some skilled author or poetry writer, I'm just a fan of the series and wanted to express it.
Disclaimer: I do not own the television series Game of Thrones or the book series A Song of Ice and Fire. They belong to the creative genius George R. R. Martin. I do not profit from this.
Sansa's Desire
I want to sing like the bird that I am and be free
And feel the embrace of the sky,
To be a rider of wind as intended to be
And feel the rush through my feathers and cry.
But man sometimes envy's the flight of the bird
And strangles her out of the air,
He places her inside a cage for a term
And forgets that she ever was there.
In her prison, no matter how gilded, she weeps
For the life she had up above,
But man is deaf to her plight and leaves
He says, "You are mine little dove."
It is here she looks out the bars and gazes
To the stars and the moon in the night,
And swears to old gods who rule in high places
She will not be tame to those deaf to her plight.
The bird will wait in her cage and sing
And knows one secret that isn't a lie,
One day I will break out of my prison and see
That I will again, learn how to fly.
