Send an Owl

1st September, 1992

It was that special day again. One which all students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry look forward to more than any other day of the year.

Harry James Potter was one of those students, and ever since the start of the summer holidays he had counted down to September the first.

After Ron, Fred and George Weasly had rescued him in the dead of night from his aunt and uncles; however, he'd been more relaxed. Of course, he still looked forward to going back to school, but not under so much pressure like last year.

It was five minutes to eleven when Harry and the Weasly's arrived at King Cross station, and Mrs. Weasly urged her son Percy to go through the barrier first. Fred and George were right behind, and Mrs. Weasly, her husband, and their youngest child, Ginny were right behind them.

Harry glanced up at the clock, and saw that there was only a minute before the train left. He pointed this out to Ron, and suggested that they go together.

As the two of them walked casually, but quickly, they suddenly bumped into the barrier, which did not let them through.

"This can't be good, Ron." Harry said, looking up at the clock which had just struck eleven.

"No, it isn't. How are we meant to get to school now?" Ron asked, now panicking.

Harry eyed his surroundings, as if they might give him a clue, and his emerald eyes fell on Hedwig. Harry grinned, and told Ron to follow him to the train station's café. Once inside, Harry discreetly pulled out a quill and some parchment. Then, he began to write.

Dear Professor Dumbledore, how are you?

Sorry to bother you, sir, but Ron and I are stuck at Kings Cross Station, for the barrier wouldn't let us through.

Can you please help us?

If you can, we look forward to seeing you soon.

Harry Potter

When he had finished the letter, Harry wrote Professor Dumbledore on the envelope, and sent it off with Hedwig. No sooner had she left, however, then Mrs. And Mr. Weasly walked by the café.

Harry and Ron ran out of it together, yelling at the Weasly parents to stop.

"Boys, why aren't you on the train?" Mrs. Weasly asked in confusion.

"The barrier wouldn't let us through for some reason." Harry explained, and Mrs. Weasly nodded in understanding.

"Don't worry dear; we'll get you two to school." She said, and the four of them got back into Mr. Weasly's car, and went back to The Burrow.

Once there, Mrs. Weasly gave them both some lunch to eat after their arrival at school, before telling them that the best way to go back would be to travel by Floo Powder.

Harry grimaced, but made certain that he spoke clearly, and arrived at school two minutes later in Dumbledore's office.

Ron came spinning into view a short while later, and biding the headmaster a pleasant afternoon and discovering that the password was "Wattlebird," they went there to eat lunch and unpack.

That evening, they were reunited with their friends, and apart from the fact that their new teacher turned out to be a fraud, and the whole thing with the Chamber of Secrets, their year was more or less normal.
