This is just a small drabble I wrote for a RP character. I do not own anything.

She allowed herself a look, just one fleeting look in his direction, enough for her to take in his features before her eyes darted back to her hands. She couldn't get too attached to him, because that would be foolish, wouldn't it? After all, soon she would wake up and find herself back in Oxford. She rested her arms on the balcony, and gazed up at the stars.

Of all the things Alice could have thought at that time, she wondered what it would be like if Wonderland was real. If such a place really existed, then undoubtedly she would choose to stay. The beautiful land had entranced her, with a lot of help from the less than sane residents. She snaked her hand up to her neck, pinching her skin as hard as she could manage, but she still wouldn't wake. Oh, Alice. Maybe you're dead.

"So you still think you're dreaming?" What a moment to butt in. She thought, her hand shooting back down to her side. When it was clear to him that there would be no reply, he continued. "You know, you must stop doing that, you're going to leave a mark." He reached for her hands, wrapping his own around her wrists as if pretending to keep her prisoner.

"I don't think, I know it's a dream." She assured him, pulling her hands to her chest. "And soon I will wake up." He looked hurt and oh god did she feel bad. He just didn't understand, no matter how much she wished it was real, she couldn't get her hopes up. "Jeff-" She began to try and explain herself but he cut her off.

"Which would mean that I'm not real." He stated solemnly. She allowed herself to look into his eyes, for just a moment, and nodded. He looked lost. As lost as she imagined she'd be if she discovered her existence relied solely on somebody continuing to dream about her.

"I would dream up someone half mad." She said, more to herself than to him, but her words elicited a chuckle from him. With that, she laughed, and for a moment they stood and laughed like mad fools.

"Yes, yes, but you would have to be half mad to dream me up!" He said once their laughter had slowed to a halt. She let out a sigh and turned away.

"I must be then." She agreed. "I'll miss you when I wake up." She felt a hand graze her wrist, ever so lightly and slowly wrap around it. The next thing she knew, he'd spun her around and pulled her close. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to hold in the tears that threatened to fall and their foreheads touched.

"I'll miss you too."
