Nicole x Ame

Robots can't love...

...Can they...?

Gasping for air, the dream world around her melted into darkness. Her nightmare was by far the worst she'd had in months. Her eyes flickered on, giving off a gentle green glow, illuminating the darkened room she was in. Her ears sticking up in a stretching motion, she sat up from the chair. I fell asleep at the desk... she thought, glancing at the cold hard desk in front of her, then the soft bed right behind her. Adjusting her shirt, she peeked her head out her door. The lab's main lights were off, but a bright light came from the main computer. Ame's fingers went swiftly across the keyboard, he was working on something on the computer.
"Ame..." a familiar amiable voice said from across the room. He glanced up at her. "Why are you up so late?" he asked, the tone in his voice sounded dreary, like he was struggling to stay awake. "I had a bad dream... Why are you up so late?".
"I'm trying to research more info on Nova's magic type. What was your dream about?" he responded. She knew his full attention was to her, but the tone of his robotic voice was a different story. It was sometimes hard to tell if he was sarcastic or not, or even listening at all, his voice was metallic sounding since he was only a robot. Nicole wasn't a real robot, only half A.I. in a robot body.
"You left camp one day... and you didn't return for an entire year. I thought it was you.. b-but it was actually Dark Ame, and.. and he took over the lab..." she stuttered, her voice starting to break. He could tell she was very shaken by this dream since she loved him so dearly. He sighed and stood up from his desk. Walking quietly to Nicole, he put his arms around her, "It's only a dream. I'm still here and well, aren't I?" he smoothed her hair down and glanced into her eyes, her staring back up at him. They both were lost in each other's eyes for a few moments until he finally leaned down and planted a kiss on her nose. His grasp around her tightened a bit as he kissed her, she knew it took everything in him for him to do that. His eyes averted away from her as he sat back up. She blushed deeply from the inside and pulled herself away from him. He gently stroked her ear before speaking again. "You need more rest. I'll see you in the morning. I need to keep... working..." his voice trailed off, and his head bobbed forward. He had fallen asleep on her shoulder. She stood there awkwardly for a moment, before carefully moving him to the couch. She plugged the cord from his arm into the computer so he would charge overnight. His fond memories appeared on the hologram table, gently lighting the room. He wasn't half human, his dreams were his memories that were stored deep in his files in his programming. She smiled at the hologram, as all their friends pranced around the table, laughing and singing.
She sat down on her bed, the moment still replaying in her head over and over. She flopped back onto her pillow and sighed, Just wait until he wakes up tomorrow to see the look on his face when he realizes... she giggled to herself, before drifting off again to the dream world of pink lemonade rivers and cotton candy clouds.
