A pebble in the ocean can cause a tidal wave.

A butterfly's flapping wings in Japan can cause a hurricane on the Brazilian coast.

A knife is dripping with blood. A young girl lies on the ground, her chest open. Lying in her own pool of blood.

She lies still. She twitches. There is a man looking down on her body, with a knife in his hand.

He grins.

Ayla feels cold. She feels an occasional chill run down her back. Her closed eyes squint, she has a headache. Ayla groans softly, raises her right hand, and rubs the top of her scalp. She runs her fingers through her fair, black hair. She pauses for a moment, then jerks her upper body upwards. She searches the room. Her head twists from left to right in absolute confusion and terror. She gobbles up all the detail in the room at once. Everything seems old, very old. Dust covers all the furniture and strayed items across the floor. A nearby desk is half open with a dark red piece of clothing hanging out. A large mirror sleeps against the wall, never been touched for what seemed like decades. A cot lies on the far right corner of the room, unmade and dusty. The air is filled with a murky thickness. Ayla finds it difficult to breath, but she quickly coordinates her inhales and exhales to produce a sufficient amount of air for her lungs. Her mind races. She thinks to herself…

"Where am I?"

"What's happened?"

"How did I…get…here…?"

Her brain aches. She grasps the sides of her head and squeezes her eyes.

"Gahh!"

Flashes of events scurry through her brain. A woman, a man, a little girl…and a small boy.
