and the song, Remember when it rained is by Josh Groban
a/n: I just wrote this all in one go and if it doesn't make any sense, I am sorry. It is a bit late and I should be in bed...but am not! It is also my first song fic and I usually do not like them, but this song just put this vivid image in my head and I ran away with it. This will be a part of my universe for LOTR, but I am not sure exactly where it will fit. Anyways, I hope you enjoy it and pardon any of my mistakes.

The palace held no comfort for him, nothing in the woods that were his home would ever be the same and he cursed the Valar for what they had taken from him. The stars were out and even their cold bright light could not lesson his grief though the trees around him sang in their own fashion and his grief echoed theirs.

"Sadron," his father's voice startled him, but he hid his surprise. He looked down from his perch in the trees and figured that if he didn't come down that he would soon have company in the boughs of his sanctuary. He could not have his haven defiled by anyone's presence, not even his father's, especially when he was not in control. All he had of her was their spot in the woods and his memories.

wash away the thoughts inside

that keep my mind away from you

no more love and no more pride

and thoughts are all I have to do

"I'll be down, Ada," he called before gracefully falling from the branch that had held him so lovingly and landing lightly on his feet. Before Sadron even had a chance to stand straight, Legolas had him wrapped in his arms.

"When you didn't come back," his voice was soft and Sadron felt his chest tighten. "We thought the worst had happened."

"I was lost too," he choked out.

remember when it rained

I felt the ground and looked up high and called your name

remember when it rained

in the darkness I remain

Legolas held his son tighter as he felt him slump against him, weary with the weight of fate, a fate that had been cruel not only to him, but to the woodland realm. He would never be the same and Legolas lamented the loss of innocence and knew it would not be the end but only the beginning of a life full of sorrow. Sadron shifted his head and looked up at his father.

"The trees sing of her," he whispered and Legolas knew they would for years to come. She had loved the trees since her birth and even now he could feel her spirit among them.

"Do you hear their message Sadron?" His son stilled for a moment and Legolas could feel the tension in his body lesson.

"She will always be with me."

tears of hope run down my skin

tears for you that will not dry

they magnify the one within

and let the outside slowly die

Legolas released his son and held him at arm's length, watching the starlight glinting off his dark hair that was like his mother's. He knew his son would live, but there would always be a darkness to his soul, a place that she would have filled. There was always the chance that he would meet her in the West and it was that thought that kept his son from fading beyond their reach for it that had happened, the consequences would have been disastrous.

"We should get back to your mother," Legolas murmured. Sadron nodded but didn't move when his father turned back toward the palace. "Sadron?"

"Just a moment Ada." He faced the tree he had been in and placed his hand on the trunk; her favorite tree which she happened to be named after. "Namárië Lithôniel."

remember when it rained

I felt the ground and looked up high and called your name

remember when it rained

in the water I remain
