Lily panted, running.

Catching up to Remus again, she attempted to continue the earlier argument.

"Remus, you've visited your Aunt Helga on her deathbed twice this year already!" She said.

"Have I? I guess she's been sick a lot. Excuse me, Lily, but I have to go." Remus replied. Lily rolled her eyes and walked faster.

"Remus. Do you honestly think I am that dense? Even Peter wouldn't believe that."

"Well, it seems he has."

"Then he's not as bright as I thought! You collapsed in Charms yesterday, Remus, and you have another wound on your forearm!" Lily pulled him into the next empty classroom they came across and locked the door. He extended his hand for his wand to unlock it, but Lily caught his wrist and held it there.

"Remus, don't think I don't notice. You disappear at the last class of the day for one week every month. Month! You're bruising and getting wounds. Potter, Black and Peter turn up the next morning ridden with eyebags and occasional bruises. I track the lunar cycle, Remus. I know." Remus' face was turned away from her, eyes screwed shut, listening to Lily's rush of words. Suddenly, he knelt, wrenching his wrist from her hold, grabbing handfuls of his hair, his eyes opening and looking completely deranged.

"All right, Lily! You know! You know how I become a monster, a freak! And how my friends endure it every month! I'm a burden to them, my family, to Dumbledore! Why-" He started sobbing " Why do you, why do any of you even-CARE? Let me suffer! Let me die, I burden you all. I burden..." He stood and raked his fingernails over a wound, causing it to reopen and his arm to spurt blood. He dropped to the ground again, weeping. Lily had started to cry when his voice cracked. Now, tears silently streamed down her face as she kneeled in front of him, healed his wound, and cleaned up the blood in a sweep of her wand. She cradled his face between her hands and spoke softly.

"I care of the pain you go through because I care for you, Remus Lupin. We all do. Dumbledore, your friends, your parents." She leaned in and touched her lips softly to his, and he jerked back, eyes wide and stood up.

"No... shouldn't have done that... I... Lily, I... James..."

He bolted out of the room.

"Oi! Moony!" He heard behind him. He quickly wiped his face with his sleeve before turning, giving a convincing grin.

"Yeah?" He replied to Sirius.

"Come on, then, let's get to Transfiguration! McGonogall'll kill us if we're late again! Where've you been?" Remus shrugged.

"Lily, er, pulled me aside to talk about homework. And speak for yourself, I've always been on time to Transfiguration."

"Homework's all you two talk about, anyway. Where IS Lily, by the way?" James said. Remus shrugged again while Sirius laughed.

"So, Prongs, you misplaced your girlfriend." he chortled, "I guess you upgraded from misplacing homework assignments and Quills." James punched him on the shoulder.

"Um, guys? Transfiguration?" Peter said. They all nodded and left, James unaware his girlfriend had wanted to cheat on him with one of his best friends, and all the said friend wanted to do was let her.

The remainder of their years at Hogwarts were awkward ones for Lily Evans and Remus Lupin. Lily and James were together, and, though she loved him, every hug, every touch, she couldn't help but wish it was Remus. When Remus first laid eyes on Harry, he smiled fondly. He smiled fondly at the memory of those eyes so close to him, yet so far.

Hello! This is the first story I've put on , but I've made a LOT of Harry Potter one-shots. Some of them are posted on a Facebook page, but rest assured that I made them. :D If requested, I'll post them as well. Reviews would be appreciated(I know I have a LONG way of improving to go)! I sorta rushed the ending, but, yeah. :/
