Dear readers, I know I haven't been the best writer this year as I haven't updated this story or my other Vampire Diaries in ages. I don't really have a good excuse but the writer's block was just horrific and I didn't know where I should go after the last chapter I have written.
After thinking and thinking, then trying to decide what to do and then re-write that 500 words or so I decided I either leave the story unfinished or I re-write it. I didn't think that just stopping this story is fair to you or to me as it's my baby and I want to see how it ends just as much as you.
So here we go, here's a re-write of Say My Name, some bits will be very similar and some pieces might have changed a lot.
Say My Name
Chapter 1
"Sometimes I think that princess's life is nothing better than a prisoner's life." Murmurs Elena as she zips her favorite tight green dress, she's getting ready for the formal dinner at the Salvatore's palace, well, her palace.
She groans in anger, once again her bad mood will ruin the good time that she's supposed to have with her father in law King Giuseppe and his upper class guests that have come to visit them. Giuseppe was and still is more of a father to her than her own ever was but even when she loves him very much and would do anything for him, Elena feels like she's going to spend the rest of the evening in purgatory.
She used to wish that her and her husband, Damon would just buy another house away from his parents and live together as most of the normal married couples do. Living in a palace is an amazing experience but there are still more negative things about living here than positive.
People outside these walls, people who have normal lives would die to live in the Royal Palace and they think that living here is a piece of cake but to be honest, there is no privacy for her and her husband. Damon's parents have so many expectations for them to do like they always had to eat in the official dining room with everyone and never together, on their own.
Even though she's a princess , she still has to obey to more rules than a normal woman would have too, it also meant that she only had a little time for herself and no freedom.
Elena felt her body stiffen up as she remembered the horrible news she got from her doctor this afternoon. She made an appointment last week to go to the medical specialist in the states that had to tell her what is wrong with her and now she's regretting her decision.
She's hoping that paparazzi had taken pictures of her going there and finding out what's wrong with her and publishing it so Damon would find it out like that rather than telling him herself. Elena shook her head and mentally scolded herself, she is not a coward, she should just tell him herself.
Elena learned so many skills from her parents on how to break bad news, but their news were always something like 'we're going to miss your birthday this year' or 'We can't come to your graduation cause we're too busy in a meeting' Unlike her parents, her life wasn't only about political decisions and wealth, from young age she promised herself that she will be different and she did, her life is a... mess.
"I will have to remember to tell that to your mother next time I see her." Damon smirks behind her, Elena jumps a little and stares at him with her big doe eyes and walks over to her table where she had places her jeweler that she had picked for this evening.
"You wouldn't." Elena said and looked at her husband intensely, Damon loved to make fun of her mother and her desperate tries of becoming an upper class woman, not as in the 'super rich' but someone that has blue blood inside. In her case that too bad because I really don't think someone from her family is related to the royal family.
"I don't wish to hear her to remind me of how lucky I am that you chose me to become your princess... I also don't want to her to remind me of what she thinks of me and how she has no idea how you chose me." Elena adds.
"She might understand why you're not happy here," Damon says, "I know I don't... You've got everything here."
"I'm happy." Elena argues, she looks at him and gives a small fake smile; the fact that her almost perfect life was damned from the begging wouldn't leave her mind. Happily ever after... Words that belong to fairy tales or maybe to women that are loved by their husbands.
"You said you felt imprisoned by being my wife, which really doesn't do any good to my ego." Damon says dramatically, Damon walks towards her and stands in front of her, Elena feels dizzy once again from the smell of his cologne. The smell that drives her crazy, she will miss this so much when everything with come to an end.
Damon is every woman's dream, a real fairy tales prince. His black hair contrasts perfectly with his ice blue eyes and pale skin, 176 centimetres high, a little bit smaller than his ancestors but he's still perfect in every way just like every man from his family line. His body muscular, without any sign of fat and his face- just like a Hollywood's actor from another period.
She swallowed her saliva twice before she started to think clearly again, "I didn't say that I feel like it because I'm your wife." Elena tells Damon.
"You said it yourself, 'Princesses life', you became a princess because your married me." Damon reminds her and smirks.
"That's true," Elena sights, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult you." Elena apologises.
Damon caresses her cheek and she feels shivers running down her spine, Damon rarely touched her when they weren't having sex and now she tries to save every unique occasion that he does.
"You didn't, I'm just worried about you. I want you to be happy." Damon says and Elena feels guiltier than she felt few seconds ago. Damon never did anything wrong, of course he's colder that a normal husband is and doesn't spend a lot of time with her outside their room but the only thing that he did wrong is that he chose the wrong woman to become his wife, to be the future queen.
"I'm just tired, I had a long day and it's making me grumpy. Don't worry about me." Elena smiled and drops her head to look at the floor. Damon takes her face in his palms and turned her head to look at him, their eyes connect and she is compelled to look at him.
"What did you do today?" He asks curiously.
Elena licks her lips and thinks about her answer when she feels pain of strong cramps inside her stomach again, now she really does want to skip dinner. Elena's pelvic area feels like it's on fire and it feels like someone is repeatedly kicking her there, she used to think that this was normal to woman, that the pains are just normal period pains that all women around the world experience.
"I spend all of my morning with some snobbish women talking about our future kids and if we need more schools." Elena tells Damon, he looks at her strangely not understanding why it would tire her. Elena usually does a lot more than she did today and would never be this tired. He frowns as other thoughts come into his mind but he shakes them off.
"I thought Caroline was handling it. Is she okay?" Damon asks.
"You know that Caroline is pregnant, she was feeling sick in the morning and it isn't healthy to spend so much time on the plane for her to get from one side from the island to her. She didn't want to cancel the meeting so I volunteered to do it. I do regret it now; those women are Caroline's specialty."
"You and Caroline have the same view on these kinds of things; these women shouldn't care if they talk to your or her." Damon says.
"If only they would think the same way as you do." Elena pouts a little, "They think I don't understand it because I don't have kids."
"Did they actually say that?" Damon asks, he didn't really care what people said about them or when they asked why they don't have children yet.
"Do you think I'm lying?" Elena asked, feeling a little hurt.
"Of course not but I do know you have a sharp tongue and would of used your diplomatic skills to bite them back in their arse." Damon tells Elena.
"Well, I think you will be disappointed in me... I told them to go to hell." Elena says and Damon laughs, showing his perfect white teeth.
"I really don't believe you, did you say that to them?" Damon asks.
"Perhaps I did." Elena answers, shrugging her shoulders and she turns around to pick up her necklace.
"Let me do it." He says and Elena passes the necklace to him, "I know you Elena, you wouldn't say that." He tells her as he puts the necklace on her neck and places a small kiss near her shoulder.
"Maybe you don't know me that well." Elena says, there were so many things that she hid from Damon. Everyone thought, well both of their families and very close friends thought that she married Damon to become a princess, no one had a single thought in their heads that she actually married him because she had a crush on him since she was little. Elena wasn't like her mother, she wouldn't marry someone that she didn't love for money.
"So did you?" Damon smirks, knowing the answer.
Elena wants to say 'yes' so badly, just to show him that he's wrong too but even a small lie is still a lie and she doesn't more lies in their life.
"No." She groans," I really wanted though." Elena confesses.
"We can barely do anything we want too. Without giving into your emotions you showed that you're perfect example of a queen." Damon tells her softly, Elena nods and turns around to look in the mirror as she puts her earrings in.
"And you want to know why I feel like I'm in prison." Elena gives him a pointed look.
"Elena, do you feel unhappy?" Damon asks more concerned now.
"Not more than an average person does daily." Elena admits. From birth she taught to hide her true feelings but now she felt tired of hiding behind the wall. She desperately wants to express her feelings, to show her husband how much she is hurting.
"So you're unhappy?" Damon exclaims surprised, like it's impossible for her to feel sad. Damon was known to see things in people that normally other don't but when it comes to his wife he in clueless.
"Elizabeth and Katy De'aths told me that we should have had kids by now." Elena begins, "I don't think they understand how much I don't want to listen to them talking about it on daily basis."
"Are you worried about that?" Damon asks.
"A little, it's normal though." Elena tries to reassure him.
"There is nothing to be worried about; soon we will be able to surprise everyone with the good news." Damon says and Elena flinches, Damon's words are like putting salt on an open would which was opened when the doctor called her today,
"What if I can't?" Elena decides to ask, trying to get the answer from of what will happen once she tells him that she will have difficulties of becoming pregnant.
Strong hands landed on her shoulders and massaged them, "There's nothing to worry about. The doctor told us because you used contraception's for such a long-time, getting pregnant will take some time."
Three years ago, just before they got married, they both decided to go to the doctors and get themselves checked out to see if they can both have children. That was the selling deal for Damon, to marry a woman that will give him a healthy heir. That didn't really shock Elena, she knew what was expected of her but what surprised her most was that Damon didn't want children then, Damon asked her to wait for a while and after a year he told her it was time.
Damon kissed Elena's cheek, running his lips down. Elena hates touched from her husband right now, touches that will make her love him more but also the touched that makes her stomach cramps even worse. Elena moved to the side from him like she should have done when he touched her for the first time.
Anger went through Damon's body and he clenched his teeth when Elena moved away from him, the way her body moved made him want her more, he wants her wife day and night. She's like a drug to him.
Damon wants to grab Elena and ask her what changed after three years of marriage, why her body doesn't respond to his touched like she used too. It's not like today was the first time that Elena pushed him away. She doesn't want to have sex with him, she hates when he touches her and Damon just doesn't know what he has to do anymore.
A year ago, Damon could have sworn that Elena loved him. Elena never said it but he knew that she did, the way she stared at him with love made him feel so warm and wanted. He feels stupid for not caring about it when she loved him but now after he noticed the changes in her it bothers him that she doesn't more than it should.
Damon never needed love but he can't help but wonder what happened to her, what made Elena not want him anymore with the passion and the love that she used too?
First time Elena pushed him away was after they agreed to have a child together. At first Damon though it was her hormones, he read about it in some magazine that Elena left beside bed but after a while things got worse.
Sometimes when they would have sex she would surprise him and show her old self, the passionate self and it would calm Damon's nerves. Damon never imagined being one of the husbands that would worry when their wife would push him away.
"Maybe you don't want to have children with me? You're scared of what will happen after the baby is born." Elena flinches again, it feels like Damon slapped her and she went pale.
"I want your child, there's nothing more than I want. Where did you get this crazy idea from?" Elena asked in shock.
"So you shouldn't listen to them," Damon told her and Elena shrugged again, "In few months they will choke on their words, I promise you. Next time take them to Caroline."
Elena looked in the mirror and brushed her long brown hair and tied it up in to a neat bun.
"Do you really things will get better?"
"It should." Damon said getting a bit irritated, "I don't understand why you're being so sensitive about this."
"It might have to do something to do with my feelings, as I'm the only one of two of us that has them." Elena snaps and then shrugs, turning to walk out the door.
She was beautiful- She looked like an angel, her curves were screaming for his hand. Moments like this Damon almost believed that he couldn't touch her and that she's like a ghost. Damon grabbed her hand, she stopped and looked at her husband with her big doe eyes and her full pink lips were open.
"What do you want?"
"I don't like seeing you like this." Damon tells her.
"I know you want everything to be perfect. For all of us to live be our scripts, do what we have to do."
"I'm trying my best." Damon nods.
"That is why you married a woman that lives by those rules too. You looked though my biography, and then you got detectives to check it. So that your princess, and then your queen would never fail. So let me do it and let me live by my rules." Elena said angrily.
She was right, but Damon still doesn't understand why she got so angry so quickly. Before the marriage she didn't show any objection to being watched, he was only trying to see if they fit together to stop them from making a mistake.
"You're perfect for me. I can't imagine a better wife than you. I will be a king and I had to think about the future of the island and you cara, was and still are my other half." Damon says to calm her down. Once again a shiver when down through her body, from the sweet words that came out of her husband's mouth.
"You do know we don't have to go to the dinner. We can stay here." Damon suggests.
Her eyes goes wide at his suggestion, "The guests are from Venezuela."
"They are his fishing buddies." Damon tells her.
"They are not just fishing buddies, they are diplomats too." She said stunned by Damon's behaviour.
"Father wouldn't get mad if we would skip the dinner today. We could do more interesting stuff rather than listening to fishing tales."
"Like talk?" Elena asks hopefully and looks a bit naive.
"No, I had something else on my mind." He wiggles his eyebrows and smirks.
Elena's face paled and she pulled away from Damon again, "It would be rude." She said trying to put distance between them.
Damon looked shocked, she was okay one second but when he mentioned having sex she changed. Did Elena find someone else? Is she having an affair behind him back? Just from the idea of Elena being with someone else makes Damon's blood boil but his pride didn't let him look for answers.
Elena having an affair would answer so many questions, Elena sometimes flies off to her own world and it's enough evidence for him to think that she is cheating him. She doesn't even try to hide it from him if she's actually cheating on him because she makes it look so obvious.
If Damon knew before he married her that she would cheat of him he would of chose someone else. When he married Elena he hoped that there wouldn't be any problems with her and he thought that he knew her better than any man. He knew that Elena was selfless and fair, which is another reason why he married Elena.
Damon also knows that people change so Elena could have changed too, maybe her secret lover changed her by giving her things that he didn't give her. What does some man have that he doesn't?
He knows that he should call a detective; Damon knows that Stefan used a very good one when he wanted to know more about his wife. Salvatore's can always trust Klaus to keep everything a secret so he might as well call him. Klaus will find out why Elena is acting so strangely sooner or later and he will tell him who is the third person and then he will decide how to act on it.
Once again the anger grew deep inside him but he smiled at his wife and offered his hand, walking to meet the guests together.
