"Are you sure about this, Draco?"

He scoffed, not meeting her eyes. He took a deep breath before replying, and when he did, his voice was cold. "I don't really have a choice, do I?"

"You don't have to do it. You can surely wait until you've at least left school to think about it."

Draco shook his head, and Narcissa knew he was right. Lucius had failed the Dark Lord, and now it was Draco's job to clean up the mess he'd made.

"You're only sixteen, surely you wouldn't have to join now." She thought of her cousin Regulus, who joined the Death Eaters before even finishing Hogwarts. He'd died just a few month after his eighteenth birthday, and the last thing she wanted was for Draco to go down the same path he did and find himself at the same ending.

He couldn't bring himself to look at his mother. "The Dark Lord- he wants me to join. I can't tell him no, I don't have options."

Draco's voice grew desperate, strained. Narcissa's family had supported the Dark Lord, and when she married Lucius, and he became a Death Eater, her role had continued. She was in the same position as ever, but this time, her son was in danger, and even if it meant defying the Dark Lord, she would support her family.

"We'll think of something, I promise."
