Sequel to In The Shadows, only quickly written up so I maybe a bit rusty as it's been years since I've written any Dramione! Usual disclaimer, HP ain't mine. I know it's a bit short, but I may have a follow-up story if inspiration hits me! Enjoy.
"Granger!" Draco Malfoy gaped at his fellow prefect before he did the unthinkable. He ran away from another girl. Hermione's mouth dropped as she her gaze followed him until he rounded a corner.
"What the hell," she muttered to herself, rooted to the spot in shock.
In Potions the next day, Hermione sat in her usual spot, Ron and Harry animatedly chatting beside her. She could hear the sound of approaching voices from the corridor, and Draco, along with his fellow Slytherins, entered the room. He stopped his chatter upon seeing her, meeting her eyes for a brief second before ducking his gaze and stiffly moving to his seat.
Her concentration during the class was distrupted by his blond head in her peripheral vision, and again she replayed the scene from the night before. Shaking her head as she tried to understand his baffling actions, Harry asked her what was wrong as Professor Slughorn announced that they were free to leave.
"Nothing," she murmured in response, her gaze still on the blond Slytherin. Harry followed her gaze but said nothing. They moved to the door of the classroom, and she bumped into Draco as he made to leave the room.
"Oh, sorry," he stuttered softly as he quickly moved out of her way and out of the classroom. Harry furrowed his brows.
"Did he...did he just apologise to you?"
"Stranger things have happened," Hermione said with a pensive look on her face.
Noticing the lateness of the hour, Hermione closed the book and returned it to its rightful shelf. Packing up her essays and quills, she bade a good night to Madam Pince as the librarian ushered out the last of the library's occupants. She stopped in surprise, seeing Draco leaning against the wall outside the library entrance. His gaze had been trained on the library doors, but upon seeing her travel through them, his eyes immediately took in the ground between them.
Hermione sighed and made to walk to Gryffindor Tower.
"Wait." It was no more than a whisper, but it was enough to halt her movements. She turned her head. He seemed to be waiting for her to say something, but she was waiting for him to speak. He sighed, and slowly moved towards her. Hermione's eyes widened as she seen him edge closer, clutching the strap of her satchel tighter. He moved to close the gap between their lips.
"What-what are you doing?" Hermione hissed, pushing at him. He opened his mouth, stuck for words.
"Well, I was planning on a follow-up from last night. I did say this to you last night," he said, reluctant to meet her stare.
"Yeah, and why exactly was that? Besides, it would hardly be deemed appropriate to be kissing a mudblood!"
"But I want to," he said softly. "That kiss last night..." She huffed but waiting for him to continue. "Well, can I kiss you?"
"And what about me being a mudblood?"
"When's the last time I actually said that word?" Draco sighed. "I am allowed to grow up like everyone else and leave childish ways and notions behind, yes?" She stared him down before shrugging.
"Prove it," Hermione said, her chin raised. He kept her gaze as he grabbed her shoulders and before she could protest, brought his lips down to hers. He could feel her resist at first, but he held his firm grip on her shoulders until he felt her relent. Draco pulled away, and immediately he received a slap to the chest.
"Was that proof enough?"
