Winter Romance
Kitty walked down the street to the Brotherhood house, it was chili, but not bad. She was about to turn the corner when she heard someone shout her name. Lance came running across the street with a huge smile on his face. He grabbed her hand and pulled her into a hug. Her face went flush, Lance was never the initiate in most of the physical contact they had, and perhaps it was his worry to overstep boundaries.
"What's gotten into you?" she asked with a smile, she blushed as he pushed the hair out of her eyes.
"I realized how lucky I am that you're my girlfriend," he beamed happily, "Sorry I was going to pick you up but the jeeps out of commission… did you walk?"
"It's not a big deal, strangely the Brotherhood House isn't as far as one would think, and it's pretty nice out," smiled Kitty as Lance took her hand.
She was a little disturbed as they reached the Brotherhood house and walked with her boyfriend. Lance was happy and was not acting like himself as he looked around the yard quickly. She raised a brow and just decided this most likely had something to do with the Brotherhood. He smiled in relief at not seeing his house mates around. Kitty laughed at his expression. He reached in his pocket, digging for something, Kitty didn't notice.
"Happy late New Year's by the way," he said as he stopped digging.
"I wish Scott wouldn't have talked the Professor into not letting you guys over," she said as his arm wrapped around her and she snuggled up to him as they walked.
"Oh well, at least you got out now," he said as they sat down on an old porch swing in the back of the house.
"Is this safe?" asked Kitty, as she watched the rusty chains swing a little.
"Hey Fred's sits on it, we're completely safe," said Lance as they began to swing.
"Where is everyone?" asked Kitty.
"They were here this morning, their probably at the after holiday sale at the mall," said Lance as he stopped the swing and took Kitty's hand.
"Wonder what they could buy, they usually have the horrible stuff left over," said Kitty, Lance was very touchy today, but she didn't mind, it was nice Lance was so relaxed.
"They are probably running around in big dumb hats and boas," said Lance as Kitty began to giggle.
"Even Wanda?" she asked in shock as Lance nodded.
"Hey it lets off steam," said Lance as he continued to hold Kitty's hands tightly.
"Lance, why did you want me to come over?" asked Kitty with a slight blush.
"Kitty, remember how we made plans for our future. Like, you know a while ago before the truce and we just kind of talked about it. We would get married after you graduated and then maybe have a child after collage?" asked Lance calmly, his eyes looking at Kitty's hand intently.
"Yeah, and we'd live in Springfield in a beautiful white house with light blue shutters and grow pink roses in the summer around our fence," she said in a dreamy way, she failed to notice Lance get down on one knee before the swing.
"Katharine "Kitty" Anne Pryde, I've known you for three years now and you'll be graduating in the spring. We've been dating for two years off and on and I want this to last forever. Every time I see you or hear your voice, my heart skips a beat and I feel lighter than air. Kitty, will you marry me?" he asked, as Kitty's eyes began to tear up.
"YES!" she screamed in delight and dove on him.
She kissed him strongly and hugged him tightly. She then felt him sit up with her in his arms. He held out a small velvet box with a gold band and two beautiful small but diamonds in it. She put it on and noticed it fit perfectly, a small realization dawning from when Tabitha had visited a month ago and borrowed one of her old rings for only a few hours. She let it ski away as they kissed again, only stopping to muffled applause and 'Whoops' and "Woohoo'. Lance looked up to see the door window covered with faces of his team mates. Both teens blushed as it began to snow around them.
LATER THAT NIGHT
Rogue lay on her back starring at the ceiling as Kitty danced around the room humming to herself. She was doing this in between typing on the computer quickly. Rogue took a bite of some beef jerky Kurt had given her earlier. She looked at Kitty and realized she was singing a wedding song. More or less a version of the wedding march, she looked her over. Rogue's mouth dropped as she noticed the small glimmer on Kitty's finger.
"Kitty?" asked Rogue as she sat up abruptly.
"Yes Rogue?" she asked happily.
"Lance proposed?" asked Rogue as she saw Kitty's ring closer.
"Isn't it great?! We were so happy until the Brotherhood started cheering from behind the door, even Wanda joined in…. it made it very awkward," said Kitty as she slumped on the bed and hugged her little stuffed dragon.
"You know what this means, right?" asked Rogue with a smile after a long pause, "I mean I'm happy for you and all.."
"What?" asked Kitty as she sat up quickly.
"As Lance is Avalanche, leader of the Brotherhood… Pietro can claim it all he wants but we all know where Lance stands in the Brotherhood. Most follow him around and bug him on a daily basis. Now that you're engaged to Lance and will eventually marry him obviously…. Thus, you are engaged to the Brotherhood and will marry the Brotherhood," said Rogue with a smirk.
"That can't be true…. That's be like you dating Remy, so you'd be dating is like Pyro and the rest them," asked Kitty.
"No, because his team doesn't listen to or follow him," said Rogue as she walked out of the room with a smile, "Good luck Kitty."
"God, I hope she's not right." said Kitty as she flopped back on her bed.
