They didn't know how long they had been sitting down by the lake, their only indicator was the moonlight shining down over the grounds of the school. James was sat up against the tree trunk and Lily was sat cuddled up to him with one of her hands resting on his chest where she absent-mindedly fiddled with one of the buttons of his school shirt. She had a small smiling playing at her lips that she couldn't seem to take off, not that she wanted to. "This is why it never worked" James murmured looking thoughtful.
"Why what never worked James?" Lily expression showed a hint of worry at his words as she looked up at him. James looked down and smiled looking into her shining eyes and replied "Why we never worked with anyone else..." He looked back to the lake "They were good while they lasted.. but they weren't ever going to last. It was always going to be me and you. Even when I got you so riled up that we'd have a full on shouting match in the common room about the stupidest things...I still don't think I could have settled for anyone else." Lily couldn't stop the full on grin that came on her face.
"You know.. I think you may be right...Oh don't you give me that smug look of yours Potter" Lily said whilst trying and failing to give him her signature warning look. She sat up and got to her feet straightening her uniform. "I think it's time we got back to the common room don't you? I think we missed dinner.." she said biting her lip. When she didn't hear a reply she looked to where James was now stood and saw him just looking at her. "..What?.. Why are you looking at me like that for? Is there something wrong with my hair? My face? What?" She asked all rather quickly. James chuckled and walked up to the flustered red head and took her hands in his and said "Don't worry love, you still look perfect." She blushed slightly and looked up at him with a small smirk and wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him full on the lips. It took him all of a second for the shock to wear off and respond by wrapping his arms around her waist and lifting her slightly off the ground. When they broke apart they grinned stupidly at each other and started making their way back up to Gryffindor tower hand in hand.

My first try at writing jily.. because I love them. I had this idea in my head and I needed to put it somewhere.. I hope I haven't ruined anyone's idea of Jily .
