Every now and then, soft as breath upon my skin, I feel you come back again

I'm in a secret underground complex at Benetech. I'm not quite sure what's behind this door, but one thing's for certain. It must be something pretty important. Otherwise, there wouldn't be so many guards here. I manage to get the lock popped just as they start firing at me. The bullets pass harmlessly through my intangible body. The clang of the bullets striking steel catches my immediate attention, though. I spin around and that's when I see you. For a brief moment, my heart stops beating.

And it's like you haven't been gone a moment from my side
Like the tears were never cried
Like the hands of time are holding you and me

In that instant, the years that we have been apart completely disappear. I can barely remember going to Russia to spread your ashes. I watch, almost in a state of shock, as you run to pummel the guards. I can't even get my vocal cords to work. It almost seems like I'm watching a movie in slow motion.

And with all my heart I'm sure we're closer than we ever were
I don't have to hear or see, I've got all the proof I need
There are more than angels watching over me
I believe, I believe

I'm suddenly overcome with the certainty that everything is going to be okay. Even if I hadn't felt you pass through me, I could still tell that you weren't a ghost. My instincts have kicked in and I know you are real.

That when you die your life goes on
It doesn't end here when you're gone
Every soul is filled with light
It never ends and if I'm right
Our love can even reach across eternity

I've studied Eastern religion and I know about reincarnation. I know that it is possible for a person to come back from the dead, especially for us X-Men. I can feel the joy you brought to my life even from this distance and it nearly brings me to tears. I manage to call out your name before you finally see me.

And I'll hold you even longer if I can

You fall to your knees and I can't help wrapping my arms around you. You feel so solid, even more so in your human form than covered in organic steel. I feel like I couldn't let you go if I wanted to.

It feels like lately, more than ever before, I've been seeing ghosts of my past. Even though the rational part of me says that this can't possibly be happening, I know that I am not crazy.

I don't know which one of my lost friends arranged this for me. It could have been Doug Ramsey or Illyana. It could have even been my dad. Whoever it was must have known just how much I needed this. I'm so grateful to whatever fates have brought us together again.
