A/N: This is my first fanfic, so please be kind! Story takes place, roughly, after IOTH. The prolouge is pretty short, but the chapters will be longer, I promise. The prolouge is pretty much foreshadowing, everything will happen later. PLEASE REVIEW!

Another day, another chase, and yet another dead end; everyday she would spend her time following the breadcrumbs Jarod left for her team. Miss Parker was sick of it. With Lyle and Raines at the helm – she shuddered, thinking those two were her only family – made it even worse.
Miss Parker's mind was running a mile a minute when she walked through her door. All she wanted to do was curl up in her bed and forget everything, her father's death, Jarod, everything. Unfortunately, someone had other plans.
Brrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiinnngg.
"What?" Miss Parker answered her cell phone, feeling the day drain out of her.
"I see you're in a perky mood," a very familiar voice responded.
"Jarod," she hissed, falling back onto her couch, "what do you want?"
"Can't I call once in a while, to check on an old friend?"
"Friend, ha! If you're my friend, Jarod, why do you keep running from me?"
Jarod paused, considered her words for a second, "Old friend, Parker. I don't think we're friends anymore, considering how you keep chasing me."
"I'd stop if I could, Jarod."
"You would?"
She hadn't realized the impact of her words; she must be more tired than she thought. It was too late now; she had to explain herself to him.
"Yes, I would. Do you think I like being The Center's search dog? I stay because it is my responsibility as a Parker. Do you think I like having no life, no friends, nothing to come home to?"
Miss Parker had never admitted this to anyone, she felt extremely vulnerable; she hated feeling this way. Her eyes welled up, threatening to let loose a flood of tears but she choked them back.
"I can't believe I just told you that."
Jarod was silent, "But your father's gone and since I don't see you being loyal to Mr. Raines, you don't have that responsibility anymore."
With the sound of the dial tone, Jarod left her with his words to think about.
If only I had the strength to leave…
