I don't own CSI.
Wow! This is my fourth story based on "Fallen Angels." Is it a record for so many stories based on one episode?! I don't know, but I always loved the relationship between Greg and Warrick. So I thought it might be interesting for Greg to tell Morgan about his memories of his fallen friend.
FYI, I hope you all like my story, "I Miss Him Too." It's a conversation between Nick and Greg after the events in episode 13x07.
Anyway, this doesn't really contain spoilers, but it was, in my opinion, one of the best episodes of the season. So I hope you like this story. And please review!
Morgan passed by the locker room and saw Greg sitting on the bench, just as he was after his ex-girlfriend was murdered a few weeks before. She knew Nick and Sara were always close to Warrick Brown, and she could tell Greg was close to him as well.
Quietly, she approached the locker room and sat next to him. Greg looked up into the beautiful, concerned face of Morgan Brody.
"Hey," he said in almost a whisper.
Morgan smiled at the CSI. He had been crazy about her since he first set eyes on her, and she had always thought he was cute.
She took a deep breath. "Tell me about him."
Greg smiled a small smile at the beautiful woman. Sighing, he looked away briefly before beginning.
"He was...amazing. He was a great CSI, and a greater friend. Anything you wanted to know about music...jazz, particularly...he was the man to ask." He chuckled sadly when he thought about the many times he and Warrick talked about their favorite singers and musicians.
"Here, I thought all this time you were just a Marilyn Manson fan," Morgan said with a small smile.
Greg smiled at Morgan. "He...had a gambling problem, but he got help for it. I wondered, when the whole...Gedda thing happened..." Greg shook his head and looked away.
Morgan bowed her head. "You thought he was in trouble?"
"I wish I'd told him," Greg said, still looking away. "Nick told him he was getting in way over his head...and we thought...I thought it was all going to be okay."
Greg breathed a shaky sigh when he thought of the night Warrick was killed. "I had just gotten to the airport when Catherine called me. S-said that he..." Greg squeezed his eyes shut, feeling tears creep in.
Morgan took Greg's hand in her own. "Sara said he and Nick were practically brothers."
Greg nodded. "Yeah. I was always their kid brother." That brought a small laugh to both of them.
Squeezing his hand, Morgan said, "You've always been a family."
Blinking his eyes open, Greg looked at Morgan. A lone tear rolled down his cheek. "He was always there for me. When I first became a CSI, he told me how to do my job right. He was there if I had a rough case...needed to vent about something Grissom said or did that I thought was unfair..." Greg rubbed his hand across his face. "I just always...I don't know, figured I'd have a chance to thank him." He sighed heavily and looked down.
Morgan cupped his cheek in her hand, bringing his face to look into hers. "I think he knew you are a great CSI. From what I've learned from Doc, Sara and Hodges...he was proud of you."
Greg smiled, thinking of his friend that was like a brother to him, Nick and Sara. "I miss him," he said simply. "Every time I hear a Nina Simone song or watch a college basketball game...I think about him."
A tear leaked out of Greg's eye and Morgan gently brushed it away with her thumb. "He's never really that far from you. I overheard Nick say that he can still feel Warrick walking beside him every day...I think he's walking beside you, too."
"Yeah," Greg said as another tear rolled down his cheek. "We were his family."
Morgan smiled softly. "I'm honored to be part of this family."
Greg smiled at the beautiful CSI. Leaning forward, he rested his forehead on hers. Giving her a short, sweet kiss, he replied, "Me too."
The End.
