Disclaimer: Sanctuary and Eureka aren't mine. If they were, there'd have been lots more sex and far less science... just sayin'. (see profile for a REAL disclaimer)

A/N: Written for liliofthevaley over on LJ, who requested the prompt, "Kate/Zane, Raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways."

Kate couldn't remember that last time she had so much fun.

She and Henry had been sent on a mission to some lameass town in the middle of nowhere Oregon, and by the time they figured out that it wasn't an abnormal causing problems, but the town's crazy scientists, it had been far too late to head home. So with a little cajoling, and a promise to do the 2am feedings for the next three weeks, she finally managed to convince Magnus to let them have the night off and check into a B&B before heading home the next day. The second they'd arrived though, Henry had yawned and mumbled something before disappearing into his room, and that's how she found herself at a restaurant in Eureka called Café Diem, getting drunk off her ass for free. Seriously, they didn't charge. They were freaking idiots if you ask her.

"Raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways," her new friend Zane slurred, leering at her over the rim of his fifth mug of beer.

She laughed, rolling her eyes, but toasted to it anyway, "Don't quite know what that means, but you seem pretty nerdly to me, Donovan."

"Nerdly?" he scoffed, booze sloshing onto the counter as he pointed accusingly at her, "Are you kidding me? This coming from the girl who started ranting about Mario Kart ten minutes after we met?"

"Oh, please. Mario is badass, and you know it."

Zane smiled and she felt her stomach flutter in response. She hadn't felt that way in a long time. God, she was gonna be in so much trouble if this night was heading where she thought it was.

"See, that's where you're wrong. Yoshi clearly pwns all..."

They spent the rest of the evening bickering about everything from sports to astronomy, and by the time the owner rolled them out onto the sidewalk, she could barely stand.

"Don't you guys have cabs here?"

Zane snorted beside her, wrapping his arm around her shoulder as they stumbled toward the town square, "No, but my place is only a few blocks away."

Practically tripping over her own feet, Kate slowed to a stop and gazed up at him coyly, the world spinning around her, "Are you coming on to me?"

His large palms were suddenly framing her face, lips hovering just a fraction of an inch from hers, "Maybe. Whatchya gonna do about it, Freelander?"

She didn't have to think twice, closing the distance between them, coaxing him into a heated series of kisses. Henry was most definitely gonna be eating breakfast alone in the morning.

End.
