Learning to Dream

Prologue

Rain plunged down on Berwood like it never had before. It cascaded from the sky, creating a curtain of mist in the penumbra… It was one of those moments when people lose consciousness of their day-to-day existence, when reality seems to be a vague figure in the horizon and it is almost as if we were in someone's dream. One of those infrequent but magic instants when anything can happen…

They looked into each others eyes, desire radiating from them, longing infinitely for something that had, until then, seemed impossible. They stood there for what seemed like an eternity, soaked, under the rain that sonorously deluged onto the now deserted pavement. Lily silently prayed for courage, for boldness, for anything that would bulldoze that maddening barrier of timidity that secluded her from the passions she yearned for so desperately. The olive-green trees at the side of the footpath swayed violently with the wind, as if objecting to the situation… James found it impossible to avert his attention from the girl that stood before him. There was something in her that didn't cease to fascinate him, no matter how many times he looked at her…

Slowly, almost imperceptibly, James brought his hand towards hers, insinuating, and at the slightest touch, a wave of alluring emotions overcame them, a pleasant vibration ran through their bodies. "Jame…" Lily started loudly, in order to be heard above the uproar of the rain, immediately interrupted by James' soft, deep, extremely hot voice. "Shhh, you don't need to say anything…" Determined, he brought her onto the road, her hand in his. "So… are you gonna kill me yourself, or are you gonna let your girlfriend do the job?!" Lily said bravely, half joking, half serious, concern only just perceptible in her voice. She wanted him. Sinfulness and remorse whipping at her conscience relentlessly, but still she longed for James Potter. She had shattered her own dignity to pieces, but at least then, she comforted herself in thinking that she had done it because of him.

They stood in the middle of the road, amidst the unceasing drops of heavenly water that seemed to be making this happen… "Lily Evans, we could both be run over any minute now. You realize that, right?" She nodded smiling, playing along with his game. "Well, imagine we were… We would have to make the most of right now", he added cunning. Then Lily, enjoying this, confessed, "Yeah… I wouldn't want to die with the regret of not doing something I wanted to do…" she paused, "pretty badly". He smiled, blushing. She reached for him slowly, gently placing her hand on his cheek, smooth as a baby's, finding his mouth with hers. She kissed him gently, their lips touched only hardly, sending a wonderful feeling through both of them. He groaned a very quiet groan. He put his arms around her and kissed her deeply, passionately… They separated and Lily looked at him for a moment, as he caressed her long, dark auburn hair. He looked even hotter in the rain than he usually did, whilst she only imagined how disastrous she must have been looking. "I love you James Potter," she told him bravely. "I love you," he said.
