Just Another Day
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter or any of it's characters. That belongs to Jk Rowling. Wish I did. Then I'd be an uber genius.
She snarled at her companions. Sick of them, of their cage and her inability to fix her situation. She knew, no matter what, this was one situation she couldn't fix. Trapped in this house. It had been so long she wondered if she'd been there forever. All she did lately was surf her computer and watch her companions flirt and form. Irritation crawled underneath her skin. They rubbed in her face as she cried herself to hell as she took a shower. Her only privacy. They thought they were subtle. A brush of a hand as he "taught" him how to do a new potion. A brief smile of thanks. She could feel the edge with tip of her fingers as she was swept towards emptiness.
The war had not been pretty. Harry had broken. The headmaster had send Harry, her and Snape to one of his small cottages for a "weekend". But then the war had escalated and Dumbledore had told them to stay there. That the hardest thing was to hide. That they would do most good to Harry by his side till he was ready. Well he was overcooked now and she was falling. One to set the rules and the other to be a friend. To see him through. Guess the roles had been reversed. Snape had grown on Harry and vice versa. They thought she didn't see. After all this time she was sure no one would recognize. Gone was the bookworm sweet innocent girl. Hello to the vicious, bitter women.
It had been four years. She had been so happy to help Harry at first but after the first year she was aware he was shunning her more and more. Well, not shunned but forgot. He lived in his paradise with Snape. They were so caught up they refused to her suffer. She was becoming Snape. Thank god she had her training. Training had become mandatory after the first year of war. She had never been that good at it before they came here. But now. It seemed the only time she left her computer was to go to the 'punch room', as she had dubbed it. She hardly ever slept. Yet she still managed to keep her mask up.
"Hermione?" Harry looked worried as he saw his friends bitter face. "Are you all right?"
Harry looked so worried, concerned. It made her smile bitterly, no doubt he was disturbed. To see past her mask was something not many would survive she thought in amusement. Well, she'd never tested that theory. But she believed it.
No one had held her hand after she had learned of Ron's death or her parents unformatted incident. Snape had been there for Harry. But she had been asked a quick, are you all right before being tossed aside. She had loved Ron and all they were concerned was each other.
"Miss Granger?" Even Snape looked slightly worried. Guess he really needed to get laid after all.
"It's nothing… I just…" Her eyes filled with tears. Though not for the reason they might think. "I miss home."
"We have no time for this Miss. Granger." Snape sneered at her.
She snorted inside. Maybe he hadn't soften up that much. She wondered if he called Harry, Mr. Potter, in bed.
"Snape." Harry glared at his lover. Her turned to his friend. "We'll be out of here in no time don't worry Hermione."
She smiled genuinely for once. "Home is long gone Harry. You've got Snape. Ron's gone. My parents are gone." She sighed. "Life goes on."
"How did you know?" Harry's face was pale.
"How could I not?" Her smile was bitter. "Life goes on."
She turned away and hurried towards the punch room. A good workout should get all her bitterness out. After all, this was just another day.
