The
Grind

Celes wiped the sweat from her brow before removing her blade from the corpse of the dead creature. She looked up at the inclement sun, bearing its heat on them without pause. How many hours had went by?
She couldn't tell, but she and company had been wandering outside Jidoor for a long, long while.
Maybe it was the boredom from fighting the same kinds of monsters over and over again. Maybe it was the lack of an adrenaline rush, since being so close to a town made it highly unlikely that they ran into any real danger. Maybe it was the fact this felt like an unnecessary deviation from the more pressing things they had to do.
But it wasn't unnecessary. They needed the training. They wouldn't stand a chance against what came ahead in their current shape.
Her mind just barely registered the cluster of monsters that appeared out of seemingly nowhere and dove for the kill without a moment's hesitation.
She looked up to the sun. In all their time out here, had it moved at all?
She sighed. Maybe this was a required part of adventuring. But like hell it wasn't the best one.
