A/N: UPDATED! It's been a while since I even attempted to rewrite this story but these past weeks I've been really on top of it because I really want to add this to my completed stories and overall it's just been a while. I started this in 2013 and it's 2017 now. Four years is a lot of time to be on hiatus and I don't think it's fair to readers who have put this story on alert and to those who did review a long time ago. I have another story to this actually after the events of Winter Soldier. If you are interested in a sequel to this to make this a saga then by all means post a few reviews and let me know how much you like or dislike this one. For that one it's actually already finished being written and I'm just waiting more Marvel movies to go off of. I'm eager to read some reviews though and I enjoy feedback and I look for it every day but thus far I haven't seen any. I know people are reading it as I check up on the traffic stats. Anyways...enjoy the sequel to Kindred. If you haven't read that one I urge you to go back and read that first so you're caught up!

Happy Reading

It was eight o'clock at night and Mia lay in her bed fast asleep. It was abnormal that she was even asleep at this time. Usually she was out on a mission or hanging out a local bar or pub, but tonight she had gone home early from her meeting and fallen straight to sleep. It was a simple hotel room in Chicago, with bare furnishings and a simple TV. It was all she could afford from her small pay from her side jobs and even then she just used her powers of persuasion to get the room for free most of the time.

But as she slept, her long hair braided back and dangling over one shoulder her eyes shifted restlessly behind their lids. Her heartbeat picked up as she dreamed.

Inside said dream there was fire and debris. Her head hurt and everything burned white hot. People she didn't know or had never met in her life were there...all of them giving her worried looks, calling out a name that though was hers this person in these dreams seemed very distant. But she twitched as an explosion erupted and her eyes shot open as she sat up the room illuminated by the white glow of her eyes. As she calmed the glow went away and Mia sighed as she looked over at the clock...it was too early in the night to go back to sleep.

Lying back she sighed her hand resting above her head and the other on her stomach. Her hand then reached up and touched the dog tags around her neck. They weren't hers that much she knew, but whoever this Steven G. Rogers was it was a connection to her past. She had always been curious but The Brotherhood never allowed her to look into it. They told her it was a benign human life, one that if she was meant to remember she would. Destiny allowed her to forget, move on and become more.

It was no denying she was powerful. Even some of the older mutants looked at her with respect and fear. For the most part Mia did what she wanted...that's is if Magneto or Mystique permitted her to do so. If it wasn't her free time it was putting the fear of god into someone or stealing something. Hell she was pro by now at getting secrets.

Getting up from her bed her feet padded to the bathroom as she closed the door and turned on the light. The fluorescent light did nothing for her complexion and only revealed the dark circles under her eyes and the lines on her face. With another sigh she turned on the cold water and washed her face before drying it off and then brushing her teeth. This was routine. She had everything in working order, and she was fine with the simplicity. When done she undid her hair as it fell about in waves and she pulled off her night things and shimmied into jeans, boots, a black racer back tank top and a black leather jacket. Shoving the dog tags into her shirt she picked up her phone and wallet from her bedside table and headed out the door.

Walking downstairs she passed a red headed woman at the ice machine. She was arguing with her male counterpart as they were discussing how much ice they needed. She didn't pay any mind to them...she just walked by and to her car. It was a 67' Chevy Impala and in a stunning black. Unlocking it she slid into it and then started the car before backing out and heading down the streets of Chicago.

The Brotherhood held themselves up in a building here in Chicago. It was a branch of the other firm in New York but for now this is where Mia was stationed. She drove for a half hour before pulling up to an old warehouse and getting out. Locking the car she walked up to a steel door and took out a key as she undid the lock and pulled it open with ease before stepping inside and shutting it again. It was a spacious set up and even some of the other mutants took home here. Her boots clicked on the damp concrete as she walked down the many isles of abandoned machinery and boxes. It had been renovated so there was electricity and power but a boxing ring and other things had been set up for anyone's use.

Mia stopped as she rolled her eyes and before it hit her she caught the apple in her hand. Turning a blue scaled woman slunk out of the shadows and smirked.

"Mystique."

"A little early to be up and about for you...usually you're lurking about at the wee hours of the morning."

"I got restless."

"No doubt. These past few weeks have been quiet for us."

"I'm sure we can find something amusing to do." Mia said taking a bite of the apple.

"Like?"

"Well with your powers and mine the world is at our fingertips."

Mystique grinned and suddenly she transformed into a blonde woman with a black dress and heels on. She did a little twirl and Mia clapped her hands in approval before the woman exited the building and made their way to cause some mischief. They found themselves at a bar that was in full swing and together they ordered drinks and allowed others to order drinks for themselves. It took a lot for them to get drunk, and even then they always liked to be on their guard. Mystique sighed as she lent against the bar and looked at her gem.

"So...we're transferring you...or well...you're going to be removed."

"Oh?" Mia muttered as she took a sip of her beer.

"Yes. Erik seems to think you're ready for the next step in all of this."

"Which would be?"

"You go back to your old life."

"What?" Mia looked up at her friend for all intensive purposes and her brows knit together with concern. "First you tell me it's behind me and now you want me to pick it up again?"

"Look you're being tailed everywhere you go now...surprised you haven't noticed." Mystique nodded behind Mia and unafraid she looked in the direction she was being directed to. In the corner by a booth was the red headed woman from the motel and her male friend.

"There of little consequence to me and not much of a threat."

"They plan on kidnapping you and taking you with them so you know." she said bemused. "And you're going to let them."

"I don't see how me infiltrating them will be of any good."

"You are there to simply collect information. The government tags people like us in this little thing they call the Index. I've lived a long time Mia...a very long time and in my time I've seen cruel things happen to good mutants. We have every right to live as freely and as passionately as anyone else."

"I don't argue with that there."

"To them you are a high level security risk. As you should be you're a powerful mutant. Like me...Like Erik and so many others you have yet to meet. But, with your current state of mental capacity I would say you are also very limited. If we could use anyone else we would but we are hoping sentiment will win out in the end."

"So this Index..."

"We just want the mutant files...that's it. We wont even call you back if you so wish to stay. But don't forget us and who helped you. Don't forget your true family Mia. You are Mutant-,"

"And proud. I know." Mia finished as she finished off another shot of alcohol.

"Just return back to your motel room tonight. And let the chips fall where they may. You know how to contact us when the time arises. And you will always have a home with us."

"I appreciate it." she said and Mystique smiled as her eyes flashed yellow. Downing her final shot she pat Mia on the back as she walked away and blended in with the people. Mia swore she saw a flicker of blond hair turn brown and as always was gone in the masses of the crowd.

After a few more drinks Mia stood up and walked out of the bar. Her hands were stuffed inside her coat jacket and she just let the world pass by around her. She knew the whole time however that she was being tailed by the two Shield agents. They kept a healthy distance and she could read their minds and knew they were aware she was aware of them.

Once reaching the motel she placed the key into the lock and then went inside shutting the door but not latching it like she usually did out of habit. She set to work packing her one duffle bag of clothing and toiletries and then pulled a chair to the center of the room and sat in it placing her hands in front of her on her stomach in a lazy manner. She checked the clock on the small table by her bed and then sighed.

She could hear a helicopter above her, the small padding of footsteps trying to be stealth and then flashlights passing by the curtained window. She looked at the door amused as the handle jiggled slightly and then once realizing it wasn't locked it burst open. There before her swarmed in many Shield agents and pushing past them was a red headed woman, the very same talking to a man by the vending machine hours ago. The one tailing her in the bar as well.

She looked at Mia and then crossed her arms over her chest and quirked a brow.

"I assume you already know we are here for you Amelia Harper."

"I'm even all packed." she said lightly as she took in the woman before her.

"Come on. We have a long flight to DC."

"Not New York?" Mia inquired.

"No...not New York." Mia stood and picked up her bag but it was quickly relieved of her and she was faced with no other option but to follow her escorts out. In the Motel parking lot where many people now had come out of their rooms to see the spectacle watched as a mass of armed men, one red headed woman and Mia were loaded into a small transport jet and then it went flying up into the air and across the sky.

Mia strapped herself in as she sat across from the red headed woman. All the while the other woman was keeping such a close and calculating eye on her.

"You came quite willingly."

"I see no reason why I shouldn't. Not that I know what's going on. I don't even know who you are."

Natasha's look then became more concerned.

"You don't know why we took you? You don't know what organization we are?"

"No. Am I supposed to?"

"My name is Natasha Romanoff and I am an Agent with Shield. As were you once and Agent of Shield. Almost a year ago, you were in an explosion that claimed lives. More importantly we thought it claimed your life. Six months after the incident we were made aware that you were in Chicago. We've observed you since...hoping that you would make contact."

"Hard to make contact when you have no memories of your life before." Mia said. The Brotherhood genuinely did not tell her how she lost her memories...only that it was meant to be. That she should accept this fate. But to now know it was from an explosion, that she was apart of a government organization, that she had another purpose other than being a mutant brought up new questions. She couldn't hardly believe she would settle to be a government tool.

"It seems so. But we will leave that up to the best doctors at Shield to determine any of this. For now sit back and relax."
