Prologue
As the sun begins to set under the horizon, a last breath of wind flows through the boy's hair. The rays of light are barely enough to give his body any sort of warmth, because the only warmth he needs, and from now on, was from another.
"Hey, dinner is ready!"
The call from her voice echoes to his ears as he turns around to respond to his last light, "Okay Mother, I'll be there in a sec…just talking to Dad." His light returning to his home already knowing full well what the boy is doing.
As the boy looks down, the wind has ceased and the glow from the sun making one last attempt to comfort the boy. He continues to look down to the image he though he would never see. The image of his father disappearing from the world that needs him more than ever.
"I'm not sure I'm ready for this…but, I will fight, just like you have, dad." The boy grasps his hands, eyes closed, "I will…do anything, to protect mom."
The sun disappears as the night begins to take over; the boy opens his eyes and turns around to see a familiar face.
"Hey, what you doing out here, your mother said it's dinner time…think I can join?"
"Is that the only reason you come by my house?"
The following exchange between them fainted as the two headed inside to enjoy what would be there last meal as kids. Soon, they will abandon their youth in order to grow into soldiers, for their generation was the next in line to fight against the Titans, the organisms that devour the light from humanity. And though the sun had already disappeared behind the horizon, one light still illuminated in the night. The light on the ground where the boy stood over, there written on the stone tablet was one name, Eren Jaeger.
