She soared through the night sky, almost close enough to taste the stars. Her thin, white chiton billowed in the wind. Below her ran the ocean, a vast, dark space sprinkled with reflections of stardust and moonlight. Normally, the ocean did not call to her. She was a Winged One and an Olive Spirit, and she reveled in the knowledge that she could fly while others were bound by Earth and Sea. But tonight was different.
Swooping down to a small island consisted of coral, she tucked in her vast, white-brown wings and peered down at the water. Her wavering reflection peered back. Large, silvery eyes that reflected the scant light, curly golden hair woven with muted beads and her feathers, and thin arms adorned with her tribe's tattoos that identified her as Huntress of the Night. She belonged in the olive groves of Athenos, not out here in the ocean. She crouched and spread her wings to go. Suddenly, the water bubbled, and a person burst forth in a spray of salty droplets. She blinked at him, and he blinked back. Sea green. She had never seen that eye color before. Interesting.
"Greetings, Strange One," she said, as her tribe's custom demanded.
"What are you?" he asked. His voice was raspy, as if he rarely used it. His black hair dripped saltwater into his eyes. Gills lined his neck, and his ears were pointed and pierced with gold rings and, surprisingly, the metal hooks the mortals used.
She looked at him warily for a moment before deciding it would not do any harm to tell him. "I am Annabeth, Skyborn, Winged One, and Olive Spirit, Huntress of the Night and Eleventh Princess of Athenos." She held out her tattooed arms to him as proof.
He gave her a strange smile. She noticed he had pointy teeth. Shark teeth. "That is who you are, but what are you?"
She contemplated this for a moment. "I do not know. What do you mean?"
He smiled again. "Come back when you find out. You are a child of the Wise One. Surely you will find the answer." He made to dive back into the deep. The edge of a fin appeared. A tail. Green-blue to match his eyes.
"Wait," she said. "What are you?"
"I am Perseus, Child of the Sea and heir to the throne of Atlantis. I will tell you what I am when you find out what you are." And with a flash of shark teeth and sea green scales, he was gone.
She stood and spread her wings out fully. "Very well, Perseus. I shall find out what I am and return." She looked down at the water one last time and took to the skies.
A/N: Percabeth, folks! Percabeth! Man, I love these characters so much. So this was some sort of weird tribe-y medieval/grecian-ish magical AU thing I came up with. For now, it's a one-shot, because I have honestly no idea how to continue it. Submit any ideas y'all might have. I need them!
