This is set in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione get the idea to brew the Polyjuice Potion to try and find Slytherin's heir. It's different from the book (obviously). It also includes a few OOC's, and it only would work out that way...
Enjoy!

'If you want me to get all the ingredients for the potion, I'm going to need a distraction!' Hermione exclaimed.
Harry sighed, thinking over ways he could get Snape's attention away from his store room long enough for the Gryffindor girl to get what was missing for the Polyjuice Potion. His eyes brightened as something came to mind. 'I have an idea!'
Harry looked over to Hermione, who was helping Neville with the potion they were assigned that morning. He glanced over at Ron and saw the red-head staring into his cauldron with a disgusted look on his face. Not that Harry could blame him, considering the potion was a sickly yellow color…way off from what the instructions on the board were written. The potion should have been a light blue…
Hermione nodded her head at Harry, and he tensed as he held tighter to the knife he was using to cut the needed beetles. 'Ouch!' he exclaimed. 'My hand!'
Snape looked up from sneering in Seamus and Dean's potion, which was closer in color than that of Harry and Ron's. 'What have you done this time, Potter?' the man said, disgust evident in his voice.
Harry gazed up at him with a frown on his face. 'The knife – it cut me! Look at that!' He held up his hand, which had quite a large gash across the palm.
The professor sighed in annoyance. 'Infirmary, Potter. Now.' Harry stood and gathered his belongings with one hand. 'And Potter?'
The twelve-year-old grimaced and turned to face the man, his face smooth. 'Yes, Sir?'
Snape's mouth twisted into a small smile. 'Detention tomorrow night with Filch; you'll be cleaning the Trophy Room.'
Harry groaned and finished packing up. He smiled bravely at Ron, who seemed panicked now that he didn't have Harry around to help fix what mistakes he could. Harry walked to the door.
When he passed the cauldron belonging to Goyle and Malfoy, he lifted his left hand, filled with pooled blood, and allowed some to dribble into the concoction, which he noticed was a perfect shade of blue. Neither Slytherin noticed, though Hermione did, and she stood as if to reach a better advantage in height to add in the next ingredient.
Harry heard the potion sizzle behind him as he opened the wooden door. Malfoy's voice rose in volume and a stool tipped backward as people scrambled to get away from the soon-to-be exploded potion.
He turned left in the stone corridor to climb up the stairs to the Hospital Wing. Behind him, a small boom resulted. Harry grinned; he had learned something after all. Mixing blood with a potion where it was not needed caused an explosion. And a decent distraction.
Yep, that was it! A review would be nice, as to where I went wrong or something...
