Human AU. PepperXRussell
The microwave gave out four loud beeps before Russell was able to silence it. A popcorn bag sizzled, the scent of slightly burnt kernels wafting through the kitchenette. He carefully opened the steaming bag and brought it into the living room where Pepper was seated on the couch. She gave him a lopsided smile as he sat down.
"Finally! Took you long enough to pop that corn." Pepper snatched the bag away from him and shoved a few hot pieces into her mouth.
"It's not my fault you need a more competent microwave."
"It's not 'Russell complains about everything in my apartment' time. Right now it's movie time!" Pepper reached for the remote but Russell stole it from her grasp.
"Not yet." He said, pulling a note pad from his pocket.
"Russselllll."
"Popcorn? Check. Fluffed pillows? Check. Michael Bay movie? Sadly, check.-"
"Annoyed comedian who's about to slap you with a rubber chicken." Pepper interrupted.
Russell put his note pad away sheepishly then started the movie. It took only minuets for Pepper to stretch herself out and curl up with Russell's side. She rested her head on his stomach and wrapped her arms around his waist. A light blush spread on Russell's face. He was starting to enjoy the feeling, about to put his hand on Pepper's back. At that moment Pepper choose to speak up.
"You should cut back on the popcorn. You're getting a little too comfy."
Russell gave an irritated 'hmph' before playfully pushing Pepper off of him, causing her to laugh.
"Just for that you don't get to use me as a pillow anymore." He said.
Pepper gave him a false pouty face, trying to look as innocent as possible. Russell didn't fall for it. He crossed his arms in defiance.
"C'mon Rusty. I was only kidding."
Russell gave her a skeptical look.
"Well…kind of kidding anyways. You do make a really good pillow." She said to him, curling up next to his side once more.
Russell sighed, giving up on the fake fight. He knew when he had lost. He placed his hand on the small of Pepper's back, rubbing light circles around it.
"There is no logical reason to explain why I put up with you." He muttered.
Pepper merely smiled, closing her eyes as she hugged his waist a little tighter.
"Because you love me." Pepper sighed out in content.
Russell grinned and kissed her on the head.
"I guess I do."
