Hey. They're (surprise, surprise) not mine. Just as short oneshot inspired by yesterday's episode. Enjoy.
Lost Little Sisters
"I've got a thing about lost little sisters."
-Fiona
It happens to the best of us. No matter how good of an operative you are, no matter how much training you have, there's always something that will get to you. Your training makes you more equipped to handle it, and certain people are better at it than others, but there's always something.
You try to stay away from jobs that will bring your feelings to the surface, but most operatives can't avoid the situations completely. If you feel that strongly about something, you won't be able to walk away.
Kids are my weak spot. As much as I've tried to forget my childhood, the memories are still there. The bruises, the tears, the worry. I can't be a rational, unfeeling spy when kids are involved. I turn into Michael, the scared boy stepping up to protect my little brother. So, whenever I see a child in trouble, my past comes out.
You try to keep your cool, and not get personally involved, but it doesn't usually work. You have to rely on someone else to keep you out of trouble. They help, because we've all got something that affects us.
For Fi, it's sisters. She lost hers, so she'll do anything in her power to make sure someone else doesn't lose theirs. She doesn't talk about Claire much, but I know her death affected her. She left Ireland, leaving her entire family behind, but as much as she wanted to escape them, the memories followed her here.
Sisters haunt Fi just as much as kids haunt me. That doesn't make her weak; it makes her human. She doesn't see it that way, though. She sees weakness, and Fi hates feeling weak. So she throws herself into the job, and buries her feelings.
I know, because I do it too. Whether you're a spy or an IRA operative turned arms dealer, feelings aren't supposed to be a part of your job. So you bury them. You try to forget. You don't let them rule your life. You don't reminisce about your terrible childhood. You don't think about your lost little sister.
