Disclaimer: Why must you remind me the painfull though of not owning the wonder that is Naruto?!
She stood under the cherry blossom, her forehead resting against the rough surface of its bark. Spring was just about to end, and the cherry blossom tree was in full bloom, its pale pink petals floating towards the ground in fluid motions for the last time.
It was the place where everything happened.
Where she was born;
During the 23 years of her life, the small hospital where she had been born was knocked down and sold. The people who bought it never did anything to the land. When she was of the ripe age of 3, she planted a small cherry seed.
And thus far it had grown into a magnificent creation of nature.
Where she played, frolicked, grew up.
Yes, the most memorable of things had happened to her here.
She could still hear the soft chatter of the crowd during her wedding.
That's right, she was married here.
It was where she married the love of her life.
Uchiha Sasuke.
It had been a lovely day, the sun shining, birds twittering amongst the treetops, another glorious spring day. They had both agreed to carry out the ancient tradition of not seeing each other the night before.
It was a beautiful wedding, but even that would have been an understatement.
The tree had chosen the perfect day to bloom, the petals flowed around her as she made her way down the aisle between the rows of chairs, the pink tendrils of her hair pulled up in an elegant bun, some escaped strands framing her high cheekbones. When Sasuke saw her, his face changed completely, whilst most people look at the bride as she enters, others look at the groom, and on his face would always be a look of happiness but most of all a soft look that was the epitome of love. The black-clad groom's eyes widened a fraction but returned to their normal size after a few nanoseconds.
And then he smiled.
Not a smirk.
Not a jeer.
Just a smile, a genuine pure smile that just seemed to say what he couldn't say, 'I love you'. She reached the end of the aisle and stood before the man she loved. The priest began, going through the usual formalities before he came to the most important part;
"Do you, Uchiha Sasuke, take Haruno Sakura to be your awfully wedded wife?"
Sasuke seemed a little stunned to speak but after a few seconds of waiting he came with his final answer;
"Hai" he said in a clear voice, as if to make sure that everyone attending had heard him properly.
She could feel her eyes welling up with tears as the priest asked her the same question.
"Hai Sasuke-kun" the dam burst, tears flooding down her face taking the mascara Ino had put on for her down with them. She leaped into his welcoming arms, her head resting in the crook of his neck.
"Hai" she whispered it, just wanting him to hear.
"I love you..." He whispered back, hugging him close to her.
She had gone through the most important day of her life near that tree, but now everything that had happened there was gone.
Sasuke wouldn't come back.
Sasuke was gone.
So was everyone else.
Please read and review.
