Title: Oh.. Author: Arcana Rating: PG Spoilers: Chimera Feedback: would make my day! Summary: Well, that explains things. Archive: Sure, as long as you let me know where it's heading. Disclaimer: They. Aren't. Mine. Author's Note: Personally, I loved Chimera. The Sam/ Jack moments were hilarious, and, as for the whole Pete issue, it had to happen. Here's why:

"Hold the elevator!" Sam Carter called, rushing to reach it before the doors closed. With only one elevator for the employees at the SGC, she would have a long wait if she missed it.

She was somewhat dismayed to find that it was the Colonel who held the elevator. After their uncomfortable chat the week before, she was somewhat reluctant to be stuck with him in such a small space again. Still, a few minutes later she found herself humming again. She had gone out again with Pete the night before. They had eaten at a nice steak house (not O'Malley's, though Pete had been quite eager to hear why she was no longer allowed in that particular establishment), and then spent hours dancing at a little club he had found tucked away in downtown Colorado Springs.

"Carter!" O'Neill's voice broke through her daze, and Sam realized she had a silly grin on her face. Forcing a more serious expression, she replied, "Yes, sir?

Jack's voice remained casual, though Sam couldn't help but notice the flash of pain in his eyes. "You're humming again," he said. "Did you have a nice weekend?"

The grin returned, though more controlled than before. "Yes, sir, I did," she replied.

"Good for you," he responded. "I'm glad you're finally getting to have fun."

Sam could tell he felt anything but. "You don't understand why I'm so happy, do you?"

He looked confused. "I just assumed. you. and Pete?"

She nodded, "Yes, me, and Pete, but not because of what you're thinking." Seeing he didn't understand, she continued. "I *have* a boyfriend."

"Yeeesssss."

Sam ignored him. "As in, someone I've been going out with for weeks, and isn't dead yet. That's a pretty important detail. I want to make sure this. Black Widow curse thing I've been having is gone before I would consider any. future relationships." She focused on him, staring as hard as she could, willing him to understand her meaning.

Jack tried to grasp what she was saying. Suddenly, a light dawned in his eyes as her meaning became clear.

Oh.

*Oh.*

Well, that explained things.
