Addison loves walking next to Mark. She always has. It has something to do with knowing that all the women looking at her are envious of her spot next to Mark's arm. Come to think of it, many of the men are, too. Mark tends to cause that reaction in people.
She loves looking fabulous, in great clothes, and her favorite Jimmy Choos, and going out with him. Addison's life may not always be perfect, but she likes it when other people think that it is.
Mark's hand slips into hers and he gives her the smile that was once reserved for picking up girls in bars. But ever since they got back together ten months ago, it's been reserved for her, and she likes it that way. She decides that Mark looks better in New York City, in their brownstone, than he ever did in the city of endless rain and humidity. Because they did move back to New York; they had to. They're New York people and always will be. 'Let Derek and Meredith come visit us' she had said, causing Mark to laugh. God, he had a perfect laugh. Really, was it not enough that he's sweet, kind, funny, intelligent, and hardworking? She had to admit that the fact that he was drop-dead gorgeous helped.
"Addie," he says in that smooth voice. "This is for you." And right there, in the middle of Central Park, he pulls out a necklace, a white gold chain with a diamond pendent. Her heart stops and she stares at the jewelry in shock. "Mark" she breathes.
He smiles again. "What? Did you think I was just going to forget about your birthday? Not a chance. But I refuse to go back into Tiffany's until I propose, babe. That place gives me the creeps."
And then she is kissing him, and he's telling her how much he loves her, as the necklace in his hand dangles in the breeze. In all honesty, it doesn't matter that people are jealous, or that people think she's perfect, or that Mark is gorgeous. It matters that he's sweet and kind and funny and intelligent and just generally amazing. It matters that he loves her and she loves him. It matters that as long as they're alive, she can walk down the street next to Mark and know that he's hers.
That's it. Told you it was short. Please, review!
