Gabriella looked in the mirror and stroked the soft white fabric that made up a long wedding dress. Her surrounding friends complimented her on how pretty she looked. She smiled, but on the inside she was screaming for one of her friends would realize her pain and talk to her. Sharpay heard her. Kelsey and Taylor left, leaving Gabriella and Sharpay. Sharpay looked right through her.
"You're not sure you wanna marry him." She said, reading Gabriella's mind.
"I don't know…I just need to think." She sat down.
"Girl, this is like a HUGE choice. You need to be sure you know what you're doing!"
"I know, I know." Her mind wandered.
"You still love troy." Sharpay said quietly.
"Maybe. But Mike is such a great guy. I don't want to just- OW!"
Sharpay had smacked Gabriella with her purse.
"I don't care if he's great! Is he for you? Do you really love him? Do you want to have his children?"
"Whoa, let's not get into children yet!"
The lady at the counter walked over to them, clearly very annoyed that they were making so much noise.
"Would you like the dress, miss?"
"Um…can you keep it on hold for me?"
"Sure." She walked away.
"You can't just keep putting things on hold, Gaby!"
"I know…I know."
Her heart said no, yet she found herself buying the dress three weeks later, with two days till the wedding. She thought about Sharpay's advice, but she couldn't bring herself to cancel.
That's how she ended up walking up the aisle two days later, heart beating harder than ever. Mike was smiling at her, and she could tell he was truly in love with her. She wished he wasn't. As she hugged her father, Sharpay, her first maid, was staring at her with careful eyes. Gabriella could tell Sharpay was thinking about how this could end up. She climbed up the two final stairs. As the priest began the ceremony, she looked at the audience. She couldn't find Troy. Sharpay coughed a very fake cough behind her, but she didn't care. She could feel Mike's soft eyes on her face. She glanced at him, and he smiled at her. His big blue eyes were gazing at her with love. She wished those eyes were brown. She wished his short hair was long and shaggy. And although she didn't want to, she wished that Mike was Troy. She blinked and looked at the floor. A tear dropped onto her face. She wasn't even listening to the priest, who was just droning on. She heard the door open. Angry faces looked towards the back of the church. Who would be disturbing the wedding like this? It was a man in Jeans, and a blue T shirt, with brown eyes and shaggy hair. Troy was standing in the back, panting heavily. He just stood there. He had seen those movies where the handsome man burst in, and the pretty blonde ran to him, and they both mounted his horse and rose into the sunset. He now realized that was easier said than done. Everyone was staring at him, except the priest, who kept talking. Gabriella dropped her bouquet. Mike looked so confused. Sharpay poked the priest and made him stop talking. Gabriella turned to Mike.
"Mike. You don't want to marry me."
"Huh?" Mike looked upset, confused, and angry all at the same time."
"If you marry me, not one of my smiles will all be real. I'll be in pain my whole life, and I'll just upset you. You'll try to reach out to me our whole lives, and ill just run away. You deserve someone who's in love with you… and that person's not me. You're a great guy, and I wanna be friends…actually no, I can't be your friend. It'll be too awkward. Anyway, I'm sorry. I can marry you."
She took the engagement ring off her finger and put it in his hand. With one last smile, she turned to Sharpay, and mouthed 'thanks'. She then gathered up the long wedding dress, and ran. She sprinted to Troy, and jumped into his arms.
"I was stupid to leave you." She gasped to him.
"You were genus to come back." He said with a smile.
