Gwen stood with what little she was taking with her into the castle in a small bag in her hands as she left her cottage for the last time. She officially lived with Arthur now. She had insisted that she get to spend the whole day after they were married in her own home. Of course their special wedding celebrations would not be missed, merely postponed to the next night. "Well," She whispered to herself. It was just after sunrise, she wondered whether her servant habits would ever break or was she doomed to wait an hour every morning for Arthur to wake.

"Elyan is a knight. I am Queen. I suppose it's the beginning of something new." Gwen stretched her arm out to the cottage door and took her first step away, "Goodbye." She scolded herself for being silly, it was just a house. Just some wood and stone, she shouldn't be so sad. In some ways though, she knew it was more than just her house she was leaving. She was leaving her home, her social status and her whole way of life for Arthur. Not that it was a regret, Arthur was her husband. She loved him more than anything. She loved to say it and so she cried to the world, "I married Arthur Pendragon!" It gave her joy to be able to say that. After years of telling herself that it wouldn't happen but secretly hoping, she was the happiest girl in the world.

"I suppose I'll need to get new neighbours." She heard a voice behind her giggle. Lucia, her best friend. Before they had both gotten jobs, they were almost inseparable but sadly, they never had time for each other as they both worked very hard to earn their keep. "I suppose you shall," Gwen replied, "I hope they're friendly." She joined in the giggling as she hugged her best friend tightly.

"I guess this is it, Your Highness." Lucia teased giving a very dramatic mock curtsey. Gwen scowled, pursed her lips and reprimanded her friend light heartedly, "You call me that again and my first act as Queen will be to have you put in the stocks."

"As you wish." Lucia teased once again.

"You know me as Gwen and that is who I will forever be, just with a fancy title. Remember that, ok?" Lucia nodded and Gwen went on her way. A few of her friends smiled and waved, some bowed to her. It would never seem right, Gwen thought. She would never be used to being addressed as Your Highness or having people stop in their tracks to acknowledge her. It was not Gwen, simply not right.

She vowed to herself to keep her head grounded, not that she would ever forget where she came from. Not with Merlin there to keep her firmly planted on the ground. He had even managed to bring Arrogant Arthur down to size. Her dress trailed the dirt road, not that she minded though her maid would probably scold her and throw away the dress anyways. Her maid. She hadn't thought of that before. Gwen was going to have someone waiting on her hand and foot. Fantastic. She groaned to herself. With any luck, it would be someone like Merlin. He wasn't awe-struck by the presence of royalty nor was he unruly. He respected Arthur as an equal, because he was a good man not because he was royal.

Yeah, it was short. The plan is a OneShot but I might update it….Though I don't suppose what I'll do with it
