The First Time as Leader
Robin's first mission as leader in New Orleans went well, but he was worried, seeing as there was a self-destruct and Nightwing had told him not to take any unnecessary risks with the team. The thing that made him take the risk of remaining in the area that the Kroloteans had been using as their base was the fact that the abductees were hidden below. Tim had returned home, and was feeling good about saving the people and his team, but he still felt unsure about how he handled it.
Tim went to his room to finish up some school work. He wasn't in there long before a soft knock was heard on his door.
"Come in." Tim said, turning his attention from his laptop.
The door opened to reveal an 18 year old Reiena, and she walked in. "Heard you went on your first mission as a leader."
"Yea, guess Dick told you huh." Tim said.
"Actually, I was at the cave the whole time, there was a problem with the machines over heating so I had to take care of that." Reiena said.
"Oh. Can I ask you something about the team?" Tim said, knowing that his 'sister' was there to talk to him. Since he became Robin, Reiena was always there to talk.
"What's up?" Reiena said, and Tim know she was willing to answer the question.
"What was it like when Dick was leader of his first mission." Tim asked. This caught Reiena off guard.
"Well, there are three different ways to approach this. There's the team's first ever mission; the mental training simulation; or the time when Aqualad wasn't available for the mission." Reiena said, thinking back over her brother's past with the team.
"I know a little about the training simulation, but I think that I want to know how Dick felt on the one when Aqualad wasn't there." Tim said, thinking over the options.
"Well, it was just Dick, M'gann, Conner, and Wally. They had to check out something going on with Qurac and Bialya. Everyone knew that Dick was the next logical choice since Kaldur wasn't there, but he was still just 13, so he kept questioning himself before making a call. Sure he had the most experience out of any of them, but he was still getting use to working with a team. During the mission, Garfield got hurt, and when his mom scolded them for interfering with the Bialyan troops on their preserve; all Dick could think about was that there are always consequence to any action taken." Reiena said, looking at Tim the whole time.
"I see, so he kinda did the same thing I did. When the Kroloteans activated the self destruct, I had to weight the pros and cons of staying. On one hand, I had to keep the team safe, but on the other if we had left, then the abductees would have died." Tim said, thinking back to earlier.
"As Dick and I learned over our time with the team, you have to know when to cut your loses on a mission, and when to make the sacrifices necessary." Reiena said, hoping that this made sense to her 'brother'.
"I guess so." Tim said, feeling better after talking to his 'sister'. "Thanks, Reiena, I really needed this."
"Anytime, Tim. Whenever you need to talk, just come to me, or Dick; we'll always help you get the hang of being a hero?" Reiena said, and with that, she left out of the room.
Okay, so this is officially the shortest thing I've ever written, but the idea actually came to me after Invasion started.
