Everybody's Fool

Perfect by nature,

Icons of self-indulgence

She watched his graceful movements as he played around with his friends, his white-blonde hair falling into his grey-blue eyes.

Just what we all need,

More lies about a world that

Never was and never will be

Have you no shame,

Don't you see me?

He glanced up at her, his eyes gleaming with malice. "Look at the mudblood!" he shouted across the grass, his comrades roaring with laughter, especially her, the one clinging on to his arm as if he were a piece of meat.

You know you've got everybody fooled.

"Maybe I should call Mad-eye over, huh ferret boy?" she yelled back, grim satisfaction changing to heavy guilt at the expression on his face.

Look here she comes now

Bow down and stare in wonder

Oh, how we love you

No flaws when you're pretending

"You're going to regret that, mudblood," she said, releasing her grip from his arm to stand and take out her wand. Hermione did the same.

But now I know she

Never was and never will be

She stared in shock at the wand in Hermione's hand and backed up slowly. She hadn't expected her to react like that. He laughed mockingly as she did so. "Now, come on Pansy, you're not afraid are you?" Pansy looked insulted as she stepped forward.

You don't know how you've betrayed me

And somehow you've got everybody fooled

Without the mask, where will you hide?

Can't find yourself,

Lost in your lie

"Let's duel," Hermione whispered, her voice cold. Pansy's eyes widened, but she raised her wand all the same. "Let's go."

I know the truth now,

I know who you are

And I don't love you anymore

It never was and never will be

She aimed her wand deadly straight for her chest. She let the release of her first jinx send Pansy flying back. She smiled.

You don't know how you've betrayed me

And somehow you've got everybody fooled.

It never was and never will be.

Her next curse, aimed for him, backfired and sent her sprawled on the grass, and he rushed over to her body, fear reaching his heart. What had he done?

You're not real and you can't save me

Somehow now you're everybody's fool.

"Drakey-pooh, what are you doing?" Pansy's high-pitched voice reached into her subconscious. Her eyes snapped open as she faced him. He stumbled back, unsure of what to do next. She rose, brushing herself off. He took a step towards her, and she shook her head.

"Don't. You won." She turned on her heels, making her way back up the grass to the castle, feeling his stare follow her all the way back.
